  1. 6. Evaluation of polysucrose 15000 as a marker of intestinal permeability

    Author : Hans Öman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Polysucrose Permeability Intestinal Absorption Cell Memhrane Permeahility Molecular WeightMacromolecular systems Biological Markers Biological Transport Crohn Disease Arthritis; RheumatoidAnti-lnflammatory Agents; Non-Steroidal Chromium Radioisotop;

    Abstract : Polysucrose (PS) is a synthetic copolymer of sucrose and epichlorohydrin, which can be produced in a variety of molecular sizes. The aim of the study was to evaluate the functionality of PS 15000, mean mol wt 14700, as a marker for intestinal permeability to macro molecules. READ MORE

  2. 7. Cardiac surgery and the kidney - studies on the effects of pharmacological interventions on renal perfusion, filtration and oxygenation

    Author : Gudrun Bragadottir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Kidney failure; acute; glomerular filtration rate; renal circulation; oxygen consumption; cardiac surgery; vasopressin; mannitol; levosimendan; estimating equations;

    Abstract : Acute kidney injury (AKI) commonly complicates cardiac surgery and is associated with high mortality. Renal ischemia is considered to be the major cause. There is a close association between glomerular filtration rate (GFR), tubular sodium reabsorption and renal oxygen consumption (RVO2) in humans. READ MORE

  3. 8. Glomerular filtration rate in adults : a single sample plasma clearance method based on the mean sojurn time

    Author : Margareta Gref; Kjell Karp; Börje Ljungberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Clinical Physiology; klinisk fysiologi;

    Abstract : Glomerular filtration rate (GFR) is a key parameter in evaluating kidney function. After a bolus injection of an exogenous GFR marker in plasma an accurate determination of GFR can be made by measuring the marker concentration in plasma during the excretion. READ MORE

  4. 9. Gastro-intestinal toxicity related to haemopoietic stem cell transplantation with a special focus on the intestinal barrier function

    Author : Jan-Erik Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The myeloablative, cytotoxic therapy (conditioning treatment) prior to haemopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) has the combined purpose of eliminating leukaemic or cancer cells located in the bone marrow or elsewhere in the body and, in the allogeneic setting, of suppressing the immune response of the recipient to prevent marrow rejection. The unwanted effect is the inevitable elimination of normal, haemopoietic stem cells, a lethal effect which is circumvented by the following administration of haemopoietic stem cells from the patient (autologous HSCT) or from a related or an unrelated donor (allogeneic HSCT). 5. 10. Experimental studies on Damage Control Surgery and Intraabdominal Hypertension

    Author : Pia Olofsson; Thore Wikström; Kenth Johansson; Sten Lennquist; Fikri M Abu-Zidan; Louis Riddez; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Damage control surgery (DCS) offers an alternative to the traditional surgical management of complex or multiple injuries in critically injured patients. If a patient survives the initial phase of DCS, complications may occur, one of these being intraabdominal hypertension (IAH) and it´s potential development into the abdominal compartment syndrome.
