  1. 1. Genetic studies in rheumatoid arthritis : familial studies and analysis of relationships to atherothrombotic comorbidity

    Author : Lisbeth Ärlestig; Solbritt Rantapää Dahlqvist; Dan Holmberg; Åsa Torinsson Naluai; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Rheumatoid arthritis; genetics; familial studies; ACPA and cardiovascular co-morbidity; reumatologi; rheumatology; genetik; Genetics; cardiovascular disease; hjärt- och kärlforskning;

    Abstract : Background. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease mainly affecting the joints but has also extra articular manifestations and an increased cardiovascular (CV) co-morbidity. Rheumatoid factor (RF) and antibodies against citrullinated proteins/peptides (ACPA) are diagnostically important and are related to a more severe disease. READ MORE

  2. 2. Inflammatory transcription factors in atherosclerosis

    Author : Wolfgang Dichtl; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Abstract : Transcription factors such as nuclear factor-kB (NF-kB), activator protein-1 (AP-1) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) may play important roles in atherogenesis, by regulating chronic subclinical vascular inflammation. In the first study, we showed that VLDL activates the proinflammatory transcription factor NF-kB in endothelial cells both in vitro and in vivo. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic aspects of stroke : association and linkage studies in a northern Swedish population

    Author : Per-Gunnar Wiklund; Birgitta Stegmayr; Kjell Asplund; Dan Holmberg; Alun Evans; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Internal medicine; stroke; genetics; polymorphism; association; linkage; risk factors; plasminogen activator inhibitor-1; tissue plasminogen activator; angiotensin converting enzyme; angiotensin II receptor type 1; phosphodiesterase 4D; Invärtesmedicin; Internal medicine; Invärtesmedicin; medicin; Medicine;

    Abstract : Stroke is a common, multifactorial cardiovascular disease. A stroke event is the result of traditional risk factors (i.e. hypertension, diabetes, smoking), environmental exposures and genetic factors in a complex interplay. READ MORE

  4. 4. In vitro contracture testing for the diagnosis of malignant hyperthermia susceptibility

    Author : Gunilla Islander; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intensive care; Anestesiologi; Anaesthesiology; specificity; IVCT; Malignant hyperthermia susceptibility; skeletal muscle; inheritance pattern; sensitivity; reproducibility; intensivvård;

    Abstract : Malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility is a rare inherited muscular disorder, which may cause a lethal increase in metabolism during anaesthesia with certain commonly used anaesthetic. Susceptible individuals are without any signs or symptoms. It is important to identify individuals at risk, since the MH reaction is preventable. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modeling and Formal Analysis of e-Health Systems

    Author : Ashalatha Kunnappilly; Cristina Seceleanu; Peter Backeman; Maria Lindén; Paola Inverardi; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : With the healthcare practice being increasingly dependent on digital processes and electronic communication, there is a need to support a variety of e-Health applications of different requirements, with respect to connectivity, low latency, and high reliability. The focus of this thesis is on providing formal assurance to systems supporting e-Health applications. READ MORE
