1. Clinical studies of thiopurine metabolism in inflammatory bowel disease
Abstract : Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD, i.e. primarily Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis) is characterised by a chronic or relapsing inflammation of the digestive tract. READ MORE

2. Development of new methodology for therapeutic drug monitoring of thiopurine treatment
Abstract : The three thiopurine drugs azathioprine (AZA), 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and 6-thioguanine (6-TG) are used to treat several diseases, including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). They are pro-drugs and are believed to act through the formation of thioguanine nucleotides (TGNs). READ MORE

3. Epidemiological and therapeutic aspects of Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Abstract : Introduction: The two main forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These are chronic inflammatory disorders, mainly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. READ MORE

4. Pharmacological and molecular investigations on the mechanisms underlying resistance of human leukaemia cells to the antimetabolites methotrexate, 6-mercaptopurine and 6-thioguanine
Abstract : The goal of this thesis has been to elucidate the mechanisms underlying resistance to methotrexate (MTX), 6-mercaptopurine (6-MP) and 6-thioguanine (6-TG), the antimetabolites widely used in treatment of childhood leukemia, as well as to determine the influence of 7-hydroxymethotrexate (7-OHMTX), the major metabolite of MTX, on the therapeutic action of MTX. Resistant sublines of leukemic cell lines were developed by long-term exposure to stepwise increasing concentrations of these different agents. READ MORE

5. Pharmacological studies on uptake, metabolism, and resistance to anti-cancer drugs : insights into the treatment of leukemia
Abstract : Leukemia is blood cancer that begins in the bone marrow and characterized by abnormal production of white blood cells. Due to advances in treatment, there has been a dramatic increase in survival rate for patients with different types of leukemia. READ MORE
