  1. 1. Analytical approaches to the study of mucin glycosylation

    Author : Kristina A Thomsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : mucins; O-linked glycosylation; mass spectrometry; cystic fibrosis; salivary mucins; sulfated oligosaccharides.;

    Abstract : Mucins constitute the major protein component of the mucus layer, which covers the epithelial surfaces of the respiratory, the gastrointestinal and the genitourinary tracts. Mucins carry O-linked oligosaccharides which contribute to the molecule by 50-80 weight percent, and these can be highly diverse, with 50-150 different oligosaccharides found on a purified mucin population. 2. 2. Post-Transcriptional Regulation of the Murine Inducible Nitric Oxide Synthase Gene

    Author : Malin Söderberg; Matti A. Lang; Françoise Raffalli-Mathieu; Eeva Moilanen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; iNOS; inducible nitric oxide synthase; gene regulation; post-transcriptional; mRNA stability; RNA-protein interactions; dexamethasone; murine; heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein; hnRNPI; hnRNPL; Farmaceutisk biokemi; Pharmaceutical biochemistry; Farmaceutisk biokemi;

    Abstract : Large amounts of nitric oxide (NO) are produced by the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) upon inflammatory stimuli. NO is a multifaceted molecule, which may have beneficial effects as an antimicrobial agent in the immune defense, or cytotoxic effects in chronic inflammations, manifested as e.g. arthritis and asthma. 3. 3. Human Skeletal Muscle : a basic proteomic approach

    Author : Jenny Hadrevi; Fatima Pedrosa-Domellöf; Högskolan i Gävle; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The trapezius is a muscle of clinical interest due to its susceptibility to chronic work related musculoslteletal disorders. The mechanisms underlying these conditions are not fully understood. READ MORE

  4. 4. Validation of antibodies for protein profiling : A study using immunohistochemistry on tissue microarrays

    Author : Linda Paavilainen; Fredrik Pontén; Ola Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; antibody validation; monospecific antibodies; protein profiling; immunohistochemistry; tissue microarrays; western blot; fixatives; Pathology; Patologi; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : The field of proteomics has rapidly expanded due to the completion of the human genome sequence. This thesis validates affinity-purified monospecific antibodies of polyclonal origin, for protein profiling in a broad spectrum of normal tissues and cells. READ MORE

    Abstract : The spotted fever rickettsia, Rickettsia helvetica, is an endemic tick-borne bacteria in Sweden. It causes infections in humans, manifested as aneruptive fever, headache, arthralgia and myalgia, and sometimes an inoculation eschar or a rash. There have also been two known cases of human infections with R. felis in Sweden. READ MORE
