  1. 1. Health assessments of asylum seekers within the Swedish healthcare system : a study of the interface between control and care, and how structure and procedures may influence access and coverage

    Author : Robert Jonzon; Anna-Karin Hurtig; Eva Johansson; Pille Lindkvist; Michael Knipper; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Public health; migration; asylum seekers; health system; health assessment; control and care; Sweden; Folkhälsa; migration; asylsökande; hälsosystem; hälsoundersökning; kontroll och vård; Sverige; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Background: Despite lack of evidence, there is a common notion that diseases are brought along with migrants, and thus a threat to people in the host country. In Sweden asylum seekers are to be offered a health assessment (HA), but national statistics show that the coverage is less than 50%. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction and nitric oxide

    Author : Kristina Hambraeus Jonzon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : hypoxia; pulmonary vasoconstriction; regional pulmonary bloodflow; stimulus-response; nitric oxide; blood-borne distant effects; nitric oxide synthase activity; inhaled; exhaled; non-enzymatic;

    Abstract : Hypoxia causes pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV), improving oxygenation by redistribution of the pulmonary blood flow to better oxygenated lung regions. HPV is intrinsic to the pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cell, but can be modulated by several vasoactive substances, as for example endothelium derived nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1). 3. 3. Child sexual abuse : disclosure, social support and subjective health in adulthood

    Author : Eva M C Jonzon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Child sexual abuse; child physical abuse; child maltreatment; subjective health; disclosure; social support; coping; self-help; mutual aid;

    Abstract : Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a known risk factor for ill-health. It is assumed that the health consequences are worse if the abuse has been considered severe or if the child has been exposed to cumulative trauma, e.g. physical abuse or other stressful life events. READ MORE

  4. 4. Regulation of Breathing under Different Pulmonary Conditions

    Author : Esther Rieger-Fackeldey; Gunnar Sedin; Anders Jonzon; Richard Sindelar; Andreas Schulze; Richard Martin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pediatrics; Control of breathing; Pulmonary Stretch Receptor; Phrenic Nerve Activity; Respiratory Distress Syndrome; Surfactant; Partial Liquid Ventilation; Assisted Ventilation; Pediatrik; Paediatric medicine; Pediatrisk medicin;

    Abstract : The breathing pattern of preterm infants is immature and is associated with a variety of reflexes. In a patient on the ventilator these reflexes interfere with spontaneous breathing. A better understanding of the immature control of breathing could lead to further improvements in ventilatory techniques. READ MORE

  5. 5. Endogenous Nitric Oxide Production and Pulmonary Blood Flow : during different experimental lung conditions

    Author : Manja Nilsson; Filip Fredén; Kristina Hambraeus-Jonzon; Göran Hedenstierna; Eddie Weitzberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nitric oxide; pulmonary blood flow; endotoxin; nitric oxide inhalation; endothelin; hypercapnia; acidosis; lavage-induced lung injury; Anaesthetics and intensive care; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anestesiologi och intensivvård; Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care;

    Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of pulmonary blood flow and attenuates hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Nitric oxide is synthesized enzymatically in a number of tissues, including the lungs, and can also be generated from reduction of nitrite during hypoxia and acidosis. READ MORE
