    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electronics; elektronik;

    Abstract : Background The most common form of cancer among males in Europe and the USA is prostate cancer, PCa. Surgical removal of the prostate is the most common form of curative treatment. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evolutionary Dynamics of Mutation and Gene Transfer in Bacteria

    Author : Peter A Lind; Dan I Andersson; J. Arjan G. M. de Visser; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fitness cost; bacterial evolution; gene amplification; mutational biases; GC content; synonymous substitutions; horizontal gene transfer; experimental evolution; Bacteriology; Bakteriologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi; Genetics; Genetik; Biology; Biologi; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The study of bacterial evolution is fundamental for addressing current problems of antibiotic resistance and emerging infectious diseases and lays a solid foundation for successful and rational design in biotechnology and synthetic biology. The main aim of this thesis is to test evolutionary hypotheses, largely based on theoretical considerations and sequence analysis, by designing scenarios in a laboratory setting to obtain experimental data. 3. 3. Mapping the Golgi retention signal in the G1 membrane glycoprotein of Uukuniemi virus, a member of the Bunyaviridae family

    Author : Agneta M Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Golgi complex; retention signal; protein transport; virus membrane glycoproteins; virus budding; Uukuniemi virus; Phlebovirus; Bunyaviridae;

    Abstract : Newly synthesized secretory and integral membrane proteins destined for the plasma membrane are transported along the exocytic pathway from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) via the Golgi complex (GC) to the cell surface. Some of the transported proteins contain information, which target them to their correct intracellular locations. READ MORE

    Abstract : Yizkor books are communal memorial books commemorating Jewish communities destroyed in the Holocaust, produced as a result of communal activity. This study analyses the production and function of Yizkor books. READ MORE

  5. 5. Imaging studies of cell physiology with particular reference to Na,K-ATPase function

    Author : Ronnie M Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Na; K-ATPase; PKA; PKC; ouabain; cell attachment; Ca2 ; RVD; fluorescence lifetime;

    Abstract : The membrane protein Na,K-ATPase is well known for its critical function of transporting sodium out of the cell and potassium into the cell, thereby creating a fundamental electrochemical gradient upon which several other important cell functions are dependent. In the current study we have investigated novel aspects of Na,K-ATPase function in cell physiology. READ MORE
