  1. 11. Hormone-Sensitive Lipase, new roles for an old enzyme

    Author : Ola Hansson; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Vitamin A; Inflammation; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Medicin människa och djur ; Metabolism; Hormone-Sensitive Lipase; Proteomics; Obesity; White adipose tissue; Skeletal muscle;

    Abstract : Hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) has a wide tissue distribution with the highest expression found in white adipose tissue (WAT). HSL also has a unique ability to hydrolyze a large panel of substrates including acylglycerols, cholesteryl esters and retinyl esters. HSL is potentially a new drug target for the treatment of obesity and type II diabetes. READ MORE

  2. 12. Black & white or shades of grey : teachers perspectives on the role of nature of science in compulsory school science teaching

    Author : Lotta Leden; Lena Hansson; Andreas Redfors; Malin Ideland; Malmö högskola; []
    Keywords : Nature of science; teachers perspectives; Didactical questions; Focus groups; Nature of science; School science; Science teaching traditions; Scientific literacy; Teachers’ perspectives;

    Abstract : Avhandlingen utforskar lärares perspektiv och förhandlingar gällande vilken roll “naturvetenskapens karaktär” (engelska ”nature of science”, NOS) kan spela i grundskolans NO-undervisning. Tidigare forskning har visat att NO-undervisning ofta har ett starkt fokus på naturvetenskapliga begrepp och strukturerade laborationer med ett implicit fokus på ”korrekta svar”. READ MORE

  3. 13. Cerebral white matter changes in patients with cognitive impairment - clinical and pathophysiological aspects

    Author : Michael Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; white matter changes; vascular factors; cognitive impairment; neuropsychiatric symptoms; cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers; demyelination; axonal degeneration;

    Abstract : Cerebral white matter changes (WMC), detected with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), represent a common condition in elderly people. However, the prognostic, symptomatological and biochemical constituents of WMC are only partially known. READ MORE

  4. 14. Tartrate resistant acid phosphatase 5a : a potential regulator of adipocyte cell number and differentiation in white adipose tissue

    Author : Christina Patlaka; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) exists in two isoforms, TRAP 5a which is monomeric and TRAP 5b which is a dimer generated by proteolytic cleavage of TRAP 5a, that exhibit different functions and localizations. TRAP 5a is expressed by adipose tissue macrophages and secreted into the extracellular environment and has been shown to lead to hyperplastic insulin-sensitive obesity when over-expressed in mice. 5. 15. Numerical Approximation of Solutions to Stochastic Partial Differential Equations and Their Moments

    Author : Kristin Kirchner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Petrov– Galerkin discretizations; Strong and weak convergence; Fractional operators; Finite element methods; Space-time variational problems; Tensor product spaces; Stochastic partial differential equations; White noise; Petrov– Galerkin discretizations;

    Abstract : The first part of this thesis focusses on the numerical approximation of the first two moments of solutions to parabolic stochastic partial differential equations (SPDEs) with additive or multiplicative noise. More precisely, in Paper I an earlier result (A. Lang, S. Larsson, and Ch. READ MORE
