1. Family symmetries and radiative corrections in multi-scalar extensions of the Standard Model
Abstract : The four articles contained in this thesis all concern aspects of model building beyond the Standard Model (BSM). While Paper I mainly serves as a ``tool paper'' in which the results can be used to simplify certain calculations of one-loop effects from new heavy particles, Paper II--IV all deal with consequences of family symmetries in several BSM scenarios. 2. On the mechanisms of structure formation in nodular cast iron
Abstract : The mechanisms of structure formation in nodular cast ironhave been examined by experiments and by physical modelling. Byincorporation of models for nucleation and growth for allrelevant phases into a heat flow calculation. it is possible topredict the as-cast structure by computer simulation. READ MORE

3. Niche differentiation of ammonia oxidizing bacteria and archaea in managed soils
Abstract : Soils offer humanity a multitude of ecosystem services, including production of food and clean drinking water, and many such services are driven by soil microbial communities. However, human activities are constantly affecting soil ecosystems through altered land use or various management strategies, and thereby influence microbial communities and their functions. 4. Identification and validation of therapeutic targets in sarcoma models
Abstract : In spite of the low incidence of sarcomas, they are highly aggressive tumors, with high metastatic potential, and resistance to both chemotherapy and radiotherapy, leaving surgery as the only treatment option. There is evidently an urgent need in identifying molecular targets and oncogenic pathways in sarcomas that can be used for the development and evaluation of drugs directed against these tumors. 5. Rheocasting of aluminium alloys : Process and components characteristics
Abstract : Semi-Solid Metal (SSM) casting is a promising technology offering an opportunity to manufacture net-shape, complex geometry metal components in a single operation. However, the absence of foundry guidelines and limited design data for SSM casting makes it challenging to predict the performance of both process and components. READ MORE
