  1. 1. Applying the Pump and Leak Hypothesis. An experimental and theoretical investigation of the principles of ion regulation and excitability in the crustacean stretch receptor neuron

    Author : Sten Theander; Människan i rörelse: hälsa och rehabilitering; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurology; neuropsychology; lobster; stretch receptor neuron; leak current; Q-current; K-Cl cotransporter; A-current; mathematical model; excitability; GABA channel; neurophysiology; ion regulation; neuropsykologi; Neurologi; neurofysiologi;

    Abstract : An invertebrate nerve cell preparation, the lobster stretch receptor neuron, was investigated with respect to maintenance of its resting voltage, intracellular ion concentrations and excitability using voltage clamp technique and ion-selective microelectrodes. It was found that the resting voltage (-65 mV) of microelectrode impaled cells is caused by (a) a homogenous population of K+ channels which we denoted as leak channels (b) an electrogenic and voltage-dependent Na-K pump current and (c) an inward microelectrode-induced "impalement" current carried mainly by Na+. 2. 2. Applications of Computational Thermodynamics and Kinetics on Transformations in Stainless Steels

    Author : Sten Wessman; Malin Selleby; Staffan Hertzman; Bosse Sundman; Hannu Hänninen; KTH; []
    Keywords : Stainless Steels; Duplex; Ferrite; Austenite; Computational Thermodynamics; Thermo-Calc; Dictra;

    Abstract : Stainless steels are high-alloyed, usually with multiple components and often also dual matrix phases, as for duplex stainless steels. This make predictions and calculations of alloying effects on equilibria and transformations complicated. READ MORE

  3. 3. Vertical III-V Nanowire Tunnel Field-Effect Transistors : A Circuit Perspective

    Author : Gautham Rangasamy; Nanoelektronik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-Power Electronics; Self-Heating; Steep Slope Devices; Tunnel Field-Effect Transistors; Vertical Nanowire; III-V Semiconductors;

    Abstract : The energy scaling of integrated circuits has reached its limit because the operating voltage of Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistors (MOSFET) based switches has reached its minimum value. MOSFETs are limited by thermionic emission and cannot achieve a subthreshold swing (SS) below 60 mV/decade at room temperature. READ MORE

  4. 4. Residue currents on singular varieties

    Author : Richard Lärkäng; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; weakly holomorphic functions; duality theorem; Coleff-Herrera products; Bochner-Martinelli currents; residue currents; singular varieties; analytic spaces; local analytic geometry; residue currents;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns various aspects of the theory of residue currents. Particularly, we study residue currents on singular varieties and duality theorems for such currents. On a singular variety, there are various notions of holomorphic functions. READ MORE

  5. 5. High Voltage Insulation Diagnostics Utilizing HTS-SQUID Based Amplifiers

    Author : Thomas Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dielectric response; current amplifier; partial discharge; Rogowski sensor; SQUID; voltage amplifier;

    Abstract : In the design and development of high voltage insulation systems, different diagnostic methods are often used for system characterization. It is therefore crucial to continuously improve existing methods and to develop new ones. READ MORE
