  1. 1. Developmental neurotoxicity of persistent and non-persistent pollutants Behavioral and neurochemical assessments of a perfluorinated compound, pesticides and interaction effects

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Iwa Lee; Uppsala universitet.; [2015]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Brain; Neonatal; Mixtures; Cholinergic system; Organochlorines; Pyrethroids; Organophosphates; Carbamates; Insecticides; PFCs; PFAAs; PFHxS; Endosulfan; Cypermethrin; Chlorpyrifos; Carbaryl; Biology with specialization in Environmental Toxicology; Biologi med inriktning mot miljötoxikologi;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis was to investigate developmental neurotoxic effects of different persistent and non-persistent environmental pollutants, alone or in binary mixtures, when exposure occurs during a critical period of brain development, in mice. The compounds investigated included a perfluorinated compound, perfluorohexane sulphonate (PFHxS), and four different pesticides, endosulfan, cypermethrin, chlorpyrifos and carbaryl. READ MORE

  2. 2. The zebrafish as a model to elucidate human diseases and development

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Dept of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

    Author : Samantha Lin Chiou Lee; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2011]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the zebrafish as a model organism to illuminate our understanding of processes that orchestrate the progression of cancer metastasis and myogenesis. First, I describe the successful establishment of a cancer metastasis model in the zebrafish, specifically to study intravasation - one of the earliest steps in the metastatic cascade. READ MORE

  5. 5. Experiments with sand slurries pumped in 0.1 to 0.5 m diameter pipeline loops

    University dissertation from Luleå tekniska universitet

    Author : Lee Whitlock; [2003]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Vattenteknik; Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The overall objective was to investigate the effectiveness of using high solids concentrations when transporting sand slurries in pipelines with centrifugal pumps. In detail, the aims are to present large-scale experimental pipe friction loss results and how head, efficiency and net suction head performance are influenced by the solid particles in large pumps and to compare friction loss data with a design model.
