1. A study of multilevel models with block circular symmetric covariance structures
Abstract : This thesis concerns the study of multilevel models with specific patterned covariance structures and addresses the issues of maximum likelihoodestimation. In particular, circular symmetric hierarchical datastructures are considered. READ MORE

2. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films
Abstract : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. READ MORE

3. Synthesis and characterization of two- and three-dimensional nanolaminated carbides
Abstract : This thesis is focused towards the synthesis and characterization of novel nanolaminated materials in primarily bulk (powder) form. Of particular interest is magnetic materials, or laminates that can be used as precursor for two-dimensional (2D) materials. READ MORE

4. Thioredoxin system in normal and transformed human cells
Abstract : Background: Thioredoxin (Trx) and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR), together with NADPH, constitute the Trx system, a major antioxidant entity that helps maintain a reducing environment within living cells. Trx designates a family of proteins that are related on the basis of structure and function. READ MORE

5. Trustful Relationships and School Development
Abstract : Methods other than averages from national tests, grades and levels of eligibility for higher education to evaluate the quality of education and school development are called for. In this dissertation is examined how a conscious effort to develop trustful relationships and mutual interaction among all actors in schools may contribute to increased well-being, community and strengthened learning processes for both students and teachers.
