  1. 1. Permafrost carbon in a changing Arctic : On periglacial landscape dynamics, organic matter characteristics, and the stability of a globally significant carbon pool

    Author : Niels Weiss; Peter Kuhry; Duane Froese; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Permafrost; Carbon; Climate; Arctic; Soil; Organic Matter; Cryosphere; Geomorphology; Physical Geography; naturgeografi;

    Abstract : Organic matter (OM) in arctic permafrost ground contains about twice as much carbon (C) as is currently present in the atmosphere. Climate change is particularly strong in the Arctic, and could cause a considerable part of the OM in permafrost to thaw out, decompose, and be released as greenhouse gases; further enhancing global warming. 2. 2. Simple Question, Complex Answer : Pathways Towards a 50% Decrease in Building Energy Use

    Author : Philipp Weiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Buildings; Regional energy policy; Energy efficiency; Rebound effect; Community-Based Social Marketing; Teknisk fysik; Engineering Science; Energy and Built Environments;

    Abstract : Addressing building energy use is a pressing issue for building sector decisionmakers across Europe. In Sweden, some regions have adopted a target of reducingenergy use in buildings by 50% until 2050. READ MORE

  3. 3. A New Look into Protein C Inhibitor : Posttranslational Modifications and their Functions

    Author : Wei Sun; Sophia Schedin Weiss; Hakon Leffler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Protein C inhibitor; posttranslational modifications; N-glycan; O-glycan; mass spectrometry; factor Xa; thrombin; prostate specific antigen; Biochemistry; Biokemi; Biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : The influences of posttranslational modifications on the functions of the versatile serpin protein C inhibitor (PCI) were studied. PCI is a serine protease inhibitor that is expressed in many tissues and secreted to various fluids in human, including blood plasma, seminal plasma, and urine. READ MORE

  4. 4. Implementation of the spectral element method and iterative solution techniques for 3D controlled-source electromagnetic modelling

    Author : Michael Weiss; Thomas Kalscheuer; Michael Becken; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Controlled source electromagnetis; Electromagnetic theory; Numerical modelling; Applied geophysics; Geo-Electromagnetics; Spectral element method; Iterative solution methods; Preconditioning;

    Abstract : Controlled-source electromagnetic methods are imaging techniques applied at/on the surface of the Earth which record the electromagnetic field in order to assess the electrical conductivity distribution of the Earth’s subsurface, along with anomalies in this material property, as well as to characterise and interpret structures in Earth’s crust. Extracting information from the recorded electromagnetic data requires inverse modelling algorithms. READ MORE

  5. 5. Joint destruction in rheumatoid arthritis : experimental, clinical and epidemiological studies

    Author : Rüdiger J Weiss; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a common autoimmune disease characterized by chronic polyarticular synovial inflammation. Erosive joint destruction represents a major unsolved complication of RA. Objectives: The aim of this thesis was to obtain increased knowledge of joint destruction by using a multidisciplinary approach. READ MORE
