11. Global bifurcations and chaotic dynamics in physical applications
Abstract : The aim of this work has been to analyse global bifurcations arising in a laser with injectedsignal and in a catalytic reaction on a surface of Pt, from the point of view of dynamicalsystems theory. The 3-dimensional ordinary differential equation which models the laser was found to contain a homoclinic orbit to a saddle-focus equilibrium, what corresponds to the Šil´nikov phenomenon. 12. Numerical studies on flows with secondary motion
Abstract : This work is concerned with the study of flow stability and turbulence control - two old but still open problems of fluid mechanics. The topics are distinct and are (currently) approached from different directions and with different strategies. READ MORE

13. Of Pipes and Bends
Abstract : This work is concerned with the transition to turbulence of the flow in bent pipes, but it also includes an analysis of large-scale turbulent structures and their use for flow control. The flow in a toroidal pipe is selected as it represents the common asymptotic limit between spatially developing and helical pipes. 14. System identification of nonlinear thermochemical systems with dynamical instabilities
Abstract : Thermochemical systems appear in applications as widespread as in combustion engines, in industrial chemical plants and inside biological cells. Science in all these areas is going towards a more model based thinking, and it is therefore important to develop good methods for system identification, especially fit for these kind of systems. 15. Acoustic scattering in ducts and influence of flow coupling
Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the acoustic properties offlow duct area expansions and the influence of flow-acousticcoupling at sharp edges. For low Mach number flow, significantinteraction between the sound field and the flow field canoccur at such points of flow separation. READ MORE
