  1. 1. Striatal adenosine A2A receptors

    Author : Per Svenningsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : caffeine; adenosine; A2A receptors; dopamine receptors; striatum; basal ganglia; immediate early genes; c-fos; NGFI-A; DARPP-32; in situ hybridization;

    Abstract : The nucleoside adenosine exerts a modulatory action in the central nervous system by activating G-protein coupled receptors. Four such receptors are cloned and pharmacologically characterized: A1, A2A, A2B and A3. Caffeine, the most widely consumed psychostimulant, acts as an adenosine receptor antagonist predominantly on the first two. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adenosine A2A and ATP receptors in PC12 cells

    Author : Giulia Arslan; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : PC12 cells; A2A receptors; ATP receptors; NGF; MAPK; Hypoxia; Cyclic AMP;

    Abstract : PC12 cells, originally isolated from a rat pheochromocytoma, are widely used to study receptor pharmacology and nerve cell differentiation. They are the neoplastic counterpart of adrenal chromaffin cells, but upon treatment with NGF they acquire a neuronal phenotype. READ MORE

  3. 3. Adenosine A2A receptors : characterization, localization, G protein coupling and interactions with dopamine D2 receptors

    Author : Björn Kull; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adenosine receptors; receptor-receptor interactions; G proteins; species differences;

    Abstract : Adenosine not only has a role in cellular energy metabolism but is recognized as an intercellular messenger with an important function in physiology and pathophysiology. It exerts its effects via a family of G protein coupled receptors of which four members have been cloned from several species: A, A2A, A2B and A3. READ MORE

  4. 4. Physiology and pathophysiology of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors

    Author : Linda Halldner Henriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Adenosine; A1 receptor; A2A receptor; knock-out mouse; in situ hybridization; receptor autoradiography; sleep; hypoxia-ischemia; behavior; motor activity; caffeine; tolerance;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to further investigate the individual roles of central adenosine A1 and A2A receptors in the physiological and pathophysiological effects of adenosine. In addition, the characteristics of different adenosine receptor ligands were studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. Dopamine receptors in the rat brain

    Author : Mi Hillefors-Berglund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dopamine D2 receptors; Dopamine D3 receptors; Rat; Autoradiography; [3H]7-OH-DPAT; [3H]PD 128907; Caudate-putamen; Subcortical limbic area; Islands of Calleja; CGS 21680; Toluene; Neurotensin; Asphyxia; Aging; Magnesium; GTP;

    Abstract : Dopamine receptors belong to a large superfamily of G protein-coupled receptors and consist of the D1, D2, D3, D4, and D5 receptors. The D2, D3, and D4 receptors belong to the D2 receptor family which is characterized by having a large third cytoplasmic loop and a short C-terminus projecting into the cytosol, and by inhibiting the enzyme adenylyl cyclase.
