  1. 1. Women, diabetes and coronary heart disease

    Author : Annika Dotevall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : diabetes mellitus; women; myocardial infarction; risk factors; autoantibodies; oxidized LDL; triglycerides; WHR; BMI; HDL-cholesterol; ACS;

    Abstract : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore the reason why women with diabetes lose the female protection against MI, by investigating cardiovascular risk factors, markers of inflammation, early predictors for future development of diabetes and clinical manifestations in diabetes and coronary heart disease.Subjects and methods: Women with (n=29), and without diabetes (DM) (n=64), hospitalised with a smyocardial infarction ( MI) 1994-96, were compared with DM-women without MI (n=46) and healthy controls (n=125). 2. 2. Autonomous cortisol secretion – Mortality, morbidity and diagnostics

    Author : Albin Kjellbom; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adrenal incidentaloma AI ; Adrenal adenoma; Cortisol; autonomous cortisol secretion ACS ; Mortality;

    Abstract : ContextUp to half of patients with adrenal adenomas found as incidentalomas show biochemical signs of subtle cortisol hypersecretion without having clinical signs or symptoms of Cushing’s syndrome. A condition called autonomous cortisol secretion (ACS). Previous studies have indicated that ACS might be associated with increased mortality. READ MORE

  3. 3. Novel Circulating and Tissue Biomarkers for Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors and Lung Carcinoids

    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small intestine neuroendocrine tumors; lung carcinoids; Ma2 autoantibodies; immunohistochemistry; olfactory receptor 51E1; blood samples; antibody suspension bead array; 小肠神经内分泌肿瘤,肺类癌,Ma2自身抗体,免疫组化,嗅觉受体蛋白51E1, 血液样本,抗体悬浮磁珠阵列; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Lung Medicine; Lungmedicin; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) and lung carcinoids (LCs) are relatively indolent tumors, which originate from neuroendocrine (NE) cells of the diffuse NE system. Metastases can spread before diagnosis. Thus, potential cures become unavailable, which entitles new biomarker development. READ MORE

  4. 4. Acute coronary syndromes. The prognostic importance of hypertension, diabetes and vectorcardiographic markers

    Author : Markus Lingman; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; acute coronary syndromes; hypertension; diabetes; percutaneous coronary intervention; prognosis; myocardial ischemia; coronary artery disease; electrocardiography; vectorcardiography; arrhythmia; sudden death; electrophysiology;

    Abstract : Research questions: 1 Is hypertension and diabetes associated with the future risk of death, and recurrent manifestations of cardiovascular disease in acute coronary syndromes (ACS)? 2 How does myocardial ischemia affect depolarization and repolarization of the heart during the early phase of an acute myocardial infarction? 3 What is the prognostic value of accepted vectorcardiographic markers in relation to future risk of sudden cardiac death after ACS? Methodology: Papers I, III and IV studied patients with ACS prospectively and consecutively included at the coronary care unit of Sahlgrenska University Hospital. Paper I deals with 2,329 patients who were followed for a median of 8 years. READ MORE

  5. 5. Aspects of Abnormal Glucose Regulation in Various Manifestations of Coronary Artery Disease

    Author : Petur Petursson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; coronary; diabetes; glucose;

    Abstract : Background Diabetes is common among patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and is associated with an approximate doubling of the mortality risk in this patient population. Prediabetes, an intermediate glycometabolic state between normal and diabetic glucose homeostasis, is also prevalent in patients with CAD but its prognostic impact has not been studied in detail.
