16. Molecular Interactions in Thin Films of Biopolymers, Colloids and Synthetic Polyelectrolytes
Abstract : The development of the layer-by-layer (LbL) technique has turned out to be an efficient way to physically modify the surface properties of different materials, for example to improve the adhesive interactions between fibers in paper. The main objective of the work described in this thesis was to obtain fundamental data concerning the adhesive properties of wood biopolymers and LbL films, including the mechanical properties of the thin films, in order to shed light on the molecular mechanisms responsible for the adhesion between these materials. 17. Characterization of elastic moduli of single fibres
Abstract : The carbon fibre is one of most promising materials for high-performance composites since it is lightweight and strong. It has been widely used to build carbon fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites. The carbon fibre dramatically reinforces the composite in the fibre direction. READ MORE

18. Steric Stabilization of Polylactide particles achieved by Covalent 'grafting-from' with Hydrophilic Polymers
Abstract : Despite numerous advantages of using particles in a wide range of applications, they have one drawback that is their tendency to agglomerate. One way to overcome this problem is to sterically stabilize the particles by introducing polymeric chains covalently attached to the surface. READ MORE

19. A Topographic Study of Functional Surfaces
Abstract : Surface topography through the years has taken on increased importance, because of the rise in quality demands. The surface often has to meet additional functional demands when products become more complex in accordance with customer preferences. READ MORE

20. The dynamic surface nature of calcite and its role in determining the adsorptive stability toward hydrophobizing carboxylic fatty acids
Abstract : Calcium carbonate has attracted a lot of interest over the centuries. Nowadays, mainly as mineral pigment and filler, it has a wide use in technological applications ranging from paper, construction, polymers, and environmental solutions to consumer goods. READ MORE
