  1. 21. Studies on gender-specific disruption of bone tissue homeostasis by dioxins

    Author : Carolina Wejheden; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Dioxins are widespread environmental pollutants, known to cause immunosuppression, developmental and reproductive defects, as well as cancer. The toxic effects of dioxins are mediated by the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR, also referred to as the dioxin receptor). READ MORE

  2. 22. Airway hyperresponsiveness and viral recognizing toll-like receptors

    Author : Magnus Starkhammar; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Common colds caused by viruses are, in healthy individuals, usually self-limited and with relatively mild symptoms. In asthmatic individuals, respiratory viruses can burst the defense immune system and trigger asthma exacerbations, including causing airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). READ MORE

  3. 23. Bioassay analysis of dioxin-like compounds : response interactions and environmental transformation of Ah receptor agonists

    Author : Helena Olsman; Magnus Engwall; John P. Giesy; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioassay; dioxin-like; Ah receptor; Biology; Biologi; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Dioxin-like compounds mediate their toxicity by binding to the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) and through this receptor a cascade of biochemical and toxic events are triggered. Mechanism-specific dioxin bioassays utilise the AhR coupled induction of endogenous CYP1A proteins or reporter gene systems for detection of dioxin-like compounds and other AhR ligands. READ MORE

  4. 24. Functional role of a constitutively active dioxin/Ah receptor in a transgenic mouse model

    Author : Patrik Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dioxin Ah receptor; TCDD; dioxin; stomach tumor; osteopontin; peritoneal B1 B cells; transcription factor; gene expression;

    Abstract : The dioxin/ Aryl hydrocarbon receptor is a ligand-activated transcription factor that mediates most (if not all) of the toxic effects of the group of highly potent environmental pollutants collectively called dioxins and PCBs, including the highly toxic compound 2,3,7,8tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). The toxic effects include immune suppression, endocrine disruption, impaired reproduction and carcinogenesis. READ MORE

  5. 25. Formation and metabolism of the tryptophan-derived 6-formylindolo[3,2-b]carbazole - a light-induced Ah-receptor ligand

    Author : Linda Bergander; Ulf Rannug; Agneta Rannug; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Toxicology; Toxikologi;

    Abstract : The aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AhR) is a ligand dependent transcription factor ubiquitously expressed in mammalian cells. It is a genetically ancient protein mostly known for binding the extremely toxic contaminant 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). READ MORE
