  1. 1. Genetic variants for liver fat accumulation and circulating triglyceride levels

    Author : Ivana Stojkovic; Diabetes - kardiovaskulär sjukdom; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NAFLD; genetic variations; triglycerides; ALAT; dietary intake; type 2 diabetes; cardiovascular disease;

    Abstract : Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), obesity and type 2 diabetes(T2D) are strongly associated and today their prevalence reaches epidemic proportions. NAFLD has a multi-factorial aetiology, both genetic and environmental factors are equally important. READ MORE

  2. 2. Gluten challenge in children with coeliac disease. With special reference to dose dependence and impact on growth markers and growth hormone secretion

    Author : Ulf Jansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Coeliac disease; children; gluten challenge; gluten dose; symptoms; enteropathy; ALP; ALAT; ASAT; albumin; IGF-I; GH.;

    Abstract : Coeliac disease is a prevalent food intolerance in both children and adults, in which ingestion of gluten causes inflammation of the small intestine. This inflammation resolves upon gluten withdrawal, and gluten challenge induces relapse of enteropathy in susceptible individuals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Direct Thrombin Inhibitors in Treatment and Prevention of Venous Thromboembolism: Dose – Concentration – Response Relationships

    Author : Marie Cullberg; Mats O. Karlsson; Ulf G. Eriksson; Nick H.G. Holford; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Pharmaceutical biosciences; Ximelagatran; pharmacokinetic; pharmacodynamic; activated partial thromboplastin time; utility function; dosing strategy; venous thromboembolism; NONMEM; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap;

    Abstract : For prevention and treatment of thrombotic diseases with an anticoagulant drug it is important that an adequate dose is given to avoid occurrence or recurrence of thrombosis, without increasing the risk of bleeding and other adverse events to unacceptable levels. The aim of this thesis was to develop mathematical models that describe the dose-concentration (pharmacokinetic) and concentration-response (pharmacodynamic) relationships of direct thrombin inhibitors, in order to estimate optimal dosages for treatment and long-term secondary prevention of venous thromboembolism (VTE). 4. 4. Circulating levels and assessment of clinical laboratory analytes, in >80-year-old, apparently healthy, moderately healthy, and frail individuals

    Author : Maria Edvardsson; Ewa Grodzinsky; Märtha Sund-Levander; Anna Milberg; Jan Ernerudh; Peter Ridefelt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Blood samples are often used to investigate the possible presence of disease and to make treatment decisions. In the interpretation of the results, comparison either with previous values from the same individual or with a set of appropriate group-based reference intervals are used. READ MORE

  5. 5. Severe and moderate alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency at the age of 30

    Author : Elisabeth Bernspång; allergologi och palliativ medicin Lungmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cohort; screening; alpha-1-antitrypsin; lung function; CT densitometry; liver;

    Abstract : Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) is a glycoprotein synthesised in the liver. Its main role is to protect lung tissue from destruction by neutrophil elastase. In severe (PiZZ) AAT deficiency, there is an increased risk of emphysema, especially in smokers. READ MORE
