  1. 21. p53 guardian of the genome and target for improved treatment of leukemia

    Author : Hareth Nahi; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : p53; p14ARF; PRIMA; RITA; AML; CLL; HDM-2;

    Abstract : P53 acts in several cellular processes as cell cycle checkpoints, DNA repair senescence and the surveillance of genomic integrity. Wt p53 inhibits cancer processes by causing cell cycle arrest and apoptosis. P53 is strongly regulated by the HDM-2 protein, which builds a complex with p53 leading to proteosomal degradation of p53. 2. 22. The methodology and significance of minimal residual disease detection after allogeneic stem cell transplantation

    Author : Mehmet Uzunel; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Minimal Residual Disease; Stem Cell Transplantation; ALL; AML; CML; Relapse;

    Abstract : Allogeneic stem cell transplantation (SCT) is the choice of therapy for leukemia patients who respond poorly to conventional chemotherapy. Despite high remission rates after SCT, relapse of the underlying disease remains one of the most frequent causes of treatment failure. READ MORE

  3. 23. Biosynthesis of leukotriene B4 in hematological malignancies

    Author : Gudmundur Runarsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : LTB 4; 5-LO; cPLA 2; iPLA 2; AML; B-ALL; B-CLL;

    Abstract : Leukotrienes (LT) are biologically active metabolites of the fatty acid arachidonic acid (AA). After liberation of AA by phospholipase A 2 (PLA 2), this fatty acid can be converted to leukotrienes, lipoxins, prostaglandins or thromboxane. The conversion of AA to LTA 4 is catalyzed by five-lipoxygenase (5-LO). READ MORE

  5. 25. Characterization of secondary and therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia

    Author : Christer Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Secondary acute myeloid leukemia (s-AML) refers to patients with either therapy-related AML (t-AML), that is, AML after treatment with chemo- and/or radiation for a prior disease, or AML progressing from an antecedent hematologic disorder (AHD-AML), typically a myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or a myeloproliferative neoplasm. Patients with s-AML present with higher rates of adverse cytogenetic aberrations and higher frequencies of adverse mutations and, subsequently, respond worse to therapy, and have poorer outcome compared to de novo AML.
