1. Development of a new PNA analogue as a potential antisense drug and tool for life-science studies
Abstract : The work described in this thesis focuses on applying synthetic organic chemistry methods (supported by modem synthesizers and analytical techniques) for the preparation of peptides and modified nucleic acids in order to affect certain properties in these biomolecules, which can lead to their application as drugs and/or tools for life sciences studies. The first part of the thesis reports the design and synthesis of a novel pyrrolidine-based peptide nucleic acid (PNA). READ MORE

2. Genetics of Diabetes Subtypes. Characterization of novel cluster-based diabetes subtypes
Abstract : BACKGROUND: Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been reproducibly clustered into five subtypes based on six-clinical variables; age at diabetes onset, body mass index (BMI), Glutamic acid decarboxylase autoantibodies (GADA), glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and insulin secretion and resistance estimated as HOMA2B and HOMA2IR derived from fasting glucose and Cpeptide. These subtypes have different disease progression and risk of complications. READ MORE

3. Aspects of ethnicity on blood pressure regulating mechanisms and kidney function in a defined population
Abstract : Background: Middle Eastern immigrants represent a growing population in Sweden today. This group are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes than the native population, but are also shown to exhibit unique properties; despite an abundance in traditional cardiometabolic risk factors such as obesity, dearranged blood lipids and diminished physical acitivity, this group seem to exhibit lower blood pressure levels. 4. Data integration and visualization in type 2 diabetes research and care: From biological mechanisms to precision medicine
Abstract : Background. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex heterogeneous disorder affecting multiple organs. Gene expression studies in organs central to T2D, such as pancreatic islets and skeletal muscle will help elucidate and disentangle molecular mechanisms underlying T2D. READ MORE

5. Phase-Contrast and Spectroscopic X-ray Imaging for Paperboard Quality Assurance
Abstract : The end-use performance of a paperboard depends on its quality. The major properties of a good quality paperboard include consistencyin the expected ratio between the thickness of the core andthe coating layers, and the uniformity in the coating layer. READ MORE
