  1. 1. Health and the elusive gender equality : Can the impact of gender equality on health be measured?

    Author : Ann Sörlin; Ann Öhman; Lars Lindholm; Tuija Muhonen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gender equality; health; gender gap; index; organizations; companies; couple relations; Public health science; Folkhälsovetenskap; Public health; folkhälsa;

    Abstract : Background: All over the world men and women show different health patterns, and therecan be many and various reasons for these differences. This thesis therefore evaluates theimpact of gender equality on health. To do this, we must be able to measure gender equality. READ MORE

  2. 2. Analysis of Nucleotide Variations in Non-human Primates

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Rönn; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Mats Nilsson; Phillip Morin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Molecular genetics; SNP; genotyping; primate; chimpanzee; whole genome amplification; multiple displacement amplification; minisequencing; microarray; Y-chromosome; mitochondria; Genetik;

    Abstract : Many of our closest relatives, the primates, are endangered and could be extinct in a near future. To increase the knowledge of non-human primate genomes, and at the same time acquire information on our own genomic evolution, studies using high-throughput technologies are applied, which raises the demand for large amounts of high quality DNA. Abstract : Groundwater, wastewater, surface runoff and surface water samples from Lake Victoria basin, Uganda was assessed for trace metals contamination. Untreated, base-treated and peroxide-treated biosorbents from Albizia coriaria, Coffea canephora, Cyperus papyrus, Erythrina abyssinica and Musa spp were investigated for removal of selected trace metals from contaminated water in batch studies. Abstract : Financial incentives can be an effective tool to influence behaviour in almost any context and healthcare is no exception. The healthcare market is, however complex, characterised by uncertainty, information asymmetry and multiple agency connections. The reach and limits of financial incentives in healthcare has been widely debated for decades. READ MORE
