  1. 1. The emotional motor system and gastrointestinal symptoms

    Author : Pontus Karling; Lars Agréus; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Anxiety; ANS; autonomic nervous system; cortisol; DST; emotional motor system; functional; gastrointestinal symptoms; GSRS-IBS; gut; HADS; heart rate variability; HPA axis; IBS; irritable bowel syndrome; stress; unipolar depression; val158met COMT polymorphism; Gastroenterology; Gastroenterologi;

    Abstract : There is a significant comorbidity between anxiety/depression and functional gastrointestinal syndromes, such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and functional dyspepsia. The pathophysiological link between emotions and the gut is not known. READ MORE

  2. 2. Silicon δ-doping and Isoelectronic Doping in GaAs ans GaN Layers Grown by MBE

    Author : Jan Thordson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MBE; doping; GaN; III-V; delta-doping; heterostructures; GaAs;

    Abstract : This work concerns MBE-grown material, particularly physical effects due to controlled impurities of Si and N in arsenides, and the growth of nitrides and studies of Al- and As-impurities in them. Apart from interesting physical phenomena there are important device applications. The first part is devoted to studies of Si .delta. READ MORE

  3. 3. Antioxidants in Andean food and meals

    Author : Leslie Tejeda; Livsmedelsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Antioxidant capacity; polyphenolic compounds; anthocyanidins; individual food; meals; ans and stan genes;

    Abstract : Abstract The constant need to improve health and to prevent disease in Bolivia, especially in the Andean region with its extreme environmental conditions (high altitude and lower temperatures), motivated us to extend studies of antioxidant sources in foods and plants, since antioxidants are believed to have major health benefits. Spectrophotometric methods, such as ABTS (2, 2’- azinobis-3-ethylbenzotiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and FRAP (ferric reduction antioxidant power), were used to evaluate antioxidant activity. READ MORE

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the role of different short-term electricity market design aspects that can facilitate better coordination of resources within the power system. The work also emphasizes on better cross-border integration of the short-term markets to improve the market liquidity, competition, social welfare, and flexibility in the system, which is essential for facilitating the integration of renewable sources. Author : Annica Blissing; Lars-Göran Mårtensson; Tomas Nyman; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Thiopurine S-methyltransferase TPMT ; protein stability; enzyme kinetics; ligand binding; isothermal titration calorimetry ITC ; 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfonic acid ANS ;

    Abstract : Thiopurine S-methyltransferase (TPMT) belongs to the Class I S-adenosylmethionine-dependent methyltransferase (SAM-MT) super family of structurally related proteins. Common to the members of this large protein family is the catalysis of methylation reactions using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) as a methyl group donor, although SAM-MTs act on a wide range of different substrates and carry out numerous biologically important functions.
