  1. 1. Soil-living archaea: Influence of pH, carbon and nitrogen on their abundance and activity

    Author : Anna Sterngren; MEMEG; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Archaea; ammonia-oxidizing archaea; soil; AOA; AOB; root exudates; gross nitrification; qPCR; pH; carbon cycle; nitrogen cycle;

    Abstract : During the last decade it has been discovered that around 2% of the soil-living prokaryotes belong to the domain Archaea. In many soils the most abundant archaeal group is the ammonia-oxidizing archaea (AOA) that, in addition to ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB), preform the first and rate-limiting step in the nitrification process. 2. 2. Niche differentiation of ammonia oxidizing bacteria and archaea in managed soils

    Author : Ella Wessén; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Soils offer humanity a multitude of ecosystem services, including production of food and clean drinking water, and many such services are driven by soil microbial communities. However, human activities are constantly affecting soil ecosystems through altered land use or various management strategies, and thereby influence microbial communities and their functions. 3. 3. Second language acquisition in 6- to 8-year-old native Spanish-speaking children : ERP studies of phonological awareness, semantics, and syntax

    Author : Annika Andersson; Helen J. Neville; Edward Vogel; Ulrich Mayr; Eric Pederson; USA University of Oregon; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; ERP; L2; language development; Semantics; phonological awareness; syntax; children 3-8 years of age ; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : Most people in the world and about a fifth of all school-aged Americans speak at least two languages. Nevertheless, little is known about second language (L2) processing in development, even though language proficiency is strongly related to success in almost all domains. READ MORE

  4. 4. Wings, turbulent boundary layers and flow separation

    Author : Fermin Mallor; Philipp Schlatter; Ricardo Vinuesa; Ramis Örlü; Manuel García Villalba; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wings; turbulent boundary layers; adverse pressure gradients; flow separation; numerical simulations; wind-tunnel experiments; flow control.; Vingar; turbulenta gränsskikt; negativa tryckgradienter; avlösning; numeriska simuleringar; vindtunnel-experiment; flow control; Aerospace Engineering; Flyg- och rymdteknik; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Abstract : The present doctoral thesis investigates the turbulent flow developing around wing sections, focusing on the impact of adverse-pressure-gradient (APG) conditions on turbulent boundary layers (TBLs) and the physics of flow separation. Both experimental and numerical methods are employed to generate high-fidelity data sets and provide an in-depth analysis of the flow. READ MORE

  5. 5. Familial thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections : studies on genotype and phenotype

    Author : Matias Hannuksela; Bo Carlberg; Bengt Johansson; Eva-Lena Stattin; Anders Gottsäter; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Thoracic aorta; familial aortic aneurysm; familial aortic dissection; genetics; aortic stiffness;

    Abstract : Background: Thoracic aortic aneurysms and dissections (TAAD) have a genetic component with an estimated 20-25% of the patients having a positive family history. An aneurysm often precedes a dissection. Acute aortic dissections are associated with high mortality and morbidity, even when operated on. READ MORE
