  1. 1. The role of Smad7 and TRAF6 in Prostate Cancer Cell Invasion, Migration and Survival

    Author : Maria Ekman; Marene Landström; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Jonas Fuxe; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TGF-beta; cell migration; invasion; apoptosis; Smad7; APC; ATM; TRAF6; p53; PC3U; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Transforming growth factor (TGF) β is a tumor suppressor during early tumor development, by inhibiting proliferation and inducing apoptosis. At later stages of cancer, it becomes a tumor promoter, and promotes tumor cell migration and invasion. TGFβ signals via its type II and type I receptors to several downstream signaling pathways. 2. 2. Hereditary Colorectal Cancer; Identification, Characterization and Classification of Mutations

    Author : Anna Rohlin; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hereditary Colorectal cancer; FAP; AFAP; mutations; mosaic mutation; exome sequencing; massively parallel sequencing; next generation sequencing; atypical polyposis; APC; POLE; GREM1; PPAP;

    Abstract : Hereditary factors are thought to play are role in 20-30% of all colorectal cancers Around 6% are found as high penetrant disease-causing mutations in genes correlated to hereditary polyposis or hereditary non-polyposis syndromes. The aim of this thesis was to identify new causative genes and variants and also mutation mechanisms in families presenting a polyposis, atypical polyposis or nonpolyposis CRC phenotype. READ MORE

  3. 3. Thymic studies. Investigations into the effects of childhood thymectomy, and characterization of thymic B cells and Hassall's corpuscles

    Author : Christina Lundqvist; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; thymus; thymectomy; TCR; B cells; APC; Hassall s corpuscles; AIRE;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the human thymus, a primary lymphoid organ responsible for the maturation of T cells. Progenitors arrive from the bone marrow and start to randomly assemble their T cell receptor (TCR) followed by a thorough selection process in which the TCR is tested for functionality and autoreactivity. Abstract : Biomarkers for organ damage and/or dysfuntion are used in almost all areas of medicine. The brain has eluded this technological development for some time. Recently, the S100B protein has been shown to be a promising marker of brain damage. However, before S100S can reach clinical reality, several problems must be solved. READ MORE

  5. 5. Resistance to activated protein C a novel risk factor for venous thrombosis

    Author : Peter Svensson; Malmö Klinisk koagulationsmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APC resistance; mutation; venous thrombosis; blood coagulation; Protein C; factor V; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Abstract : Activated protein C resistance (APC resistance) is the most common hereditary condition associated with venous thrombosis. The syndrome known as APC resistance is perfectly linked to a mutation in the gene coding coagulation FV (FV:Q506) mutation changing Arg 506 to Gln in the APC cleavage site. READ MORE
