  1. 1. Genes predisposing to type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular mortality

    Author : Jenny Fredriksson; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; APOE; APM1; PPARG; PPARGC1A; survival abalysis; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; Type 2 Diabetes; cardiovascular mortality; glycogen synthase; adiponectin; GYS1;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular complications are frequent in type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular death is the most common cause of death for these individuals. A region on chromosome 19 (19q13) has been indicated by several genome scans as a susceptibility locus for T2D or components of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). READ MORE

  2. 2. Genetic epidemiological aspects of obesity and related traits. Human studies in Swedish and North-American cohorts

    Author : Peter Jacobson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : Obesity; candidate genes; metabolic syndrome; resting metabolic rate; respiratory quotient; assortative mating;

    Abstract : Aims: To investigate two obesity candidate genes, the melanocortin-4 receptor (MC4R) and the adiponectin hormone (APM1), by screening their genomic sequences. To search the human genome for quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to resting metabolic rate (RMR), and respiratory quotient (RQ). READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic and immunological risk factors of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Nael Shaat; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []

    Abstract : Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a heterogeneous disorder that is defined as carbohydrate intolerance with onset or first recognition during pregnancy. Impaired beta-cell function and insulin resistance are the hallmarks of GDM. READ MORE

  4. 4. Molecular studies of complications in end stage renal disease : focus on expression and variations of candidate susceptibility genes

    Author : Alicia Bergsten; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : End stage renal disease (ESRD) is a complex multifactorial disorder, where both environmental and genetic factors are contributing to the phenotype. The most common complications seen in ESRD patients are malnutrition, inflammation and atherosclerosis and the coexistence of these complications is denoted the MIA syndrome, which is associated with inexplicably high mortality.
