1. Toll-like receptor-induced cytokine secretion by human monocytes in healthy donors and septic patients assessed at the single cell level
Abstract : Following the ligation of Toll-like receptors (TLRs) by bacterial-derived signature molecules, innate immune cells such as monocytes, macrophages and neutrophils initiate the inflammatory process by secreting chemokines and cytokines with a wide range of immunomodulatory effects. Under normal conditions, these mediators work to compartmentalize the inflammatory process and eradicate the intruder, while simultaneously recruiting more immune cells to the site of infection. 2. Milk Fat Intake and Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA) Supplementation : Dietary Markers and Associations to Clinical and Biochemical Characteristics
Abstract : In the present thesis dietary markers for intake of milk fat, associations between intake of milk fat and risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD), and the effects of supplementation with conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to healthy humans are investigated. The dietary fat quality is one of the main lifestyle factors affecting risk for CHD. 3. Implementation and Analysis of Air-Sea Exchange Processes in Atmosphere and Ocean Modelling
Abstract : To understand and to predict the weather and climate, numerical models are important tools and it is crucial that the controlling processes are described correctly. Since 70% of the global surface is covered with water the description how the ocean and atmosphere communicates has a considerable impact. READ MORE

4. Fluxes of Sensible and Latent Heat and Carbon Dioxide in the Marine Atmospheric Boundary Layer
Abstract : Oceans cover about 70% of the earth’s surface. They are the largest source of the atmospheric water vapour and act as enormous heat reservoirs. Thus in order to predict the future weather and climate it is of great importance to understand the processes governing the exchange of water vapour and heat between the ocean and atmosphere.
