  1. 1. Cellular monitoring in open heart surgery. Monitoring of markers for ischemia, free amino acids, glucose and lactate in the myocardial interstitial fluid before, during and after cardiac surgery using microdialysis technique

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Charles Kennergren; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2000]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cardiac surgery; myocardial ischemia; microdialysis; interstitial markers; ASAT; troponin-T; amino acids; glucose; lactate;

    Abstract : Protection of the myocardium during open-heart surgery is a field of intense development. Numerous protocols have been proposed to minimize ischemia, since the beginning of open-heart surgery more than 40 years ago. READ MORE

  2. 2. Gluten challenge in children with coeliac disease. With special reference to dose dependence and impact on growth markers and growth hormone secretion

    University dissertation from Göteborg

    Author : Ulf Jansson; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Coeliac disease; children; gluten challenge; gluten dose; symptoms; enteropathy; ALP; ALAT; ASAT; albumin; IGF-I; GH.;

    Abstract : Coeliac disease is a prevalent food intolerance in both children and adults, in which ingestion of gluten causes inflammation of the small intestine. This inflammation resolves upon gluten withdrawal, and gluten challenge induces relapse of enteropathy in susceptible individuals. READ MORE

  3. 3. Circulating levels and assessment of clinical laboratory analytes, in >80-year-old, apparently healthy, moderately healthy, and frail individuals

    University dissertation from Linköping : Linköping University Electronic Press

    Author : Maria Edvardsson; Ewa Grodzinsky; Märtha Sund-Levander; Anna Milberg; Jan Ernerudh; Peter Ridefelt; [2019]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Blood samples are often used to investigate the possible presence of disease and to make treatment decisions. In the interpretation of the results, comparison either with previous values from the same individual or with a set of appropriate group-based reference intervals are used. READ MORE

  4. 4. Severe and moderate alpha-1-antitrypsin deficiency at the age of 30

    University dissertation from Department of Respiratory Medicine and Allergology, Lund University

    Author : Elisabeth Bernspång; [2009]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cohort; screening; alpha-1-antitrypsin; lung function; CT densitometry; liver;

    Abstract : Alpha-1-antitrypsin (AAT) is a glycoprotein synthesised in the liver. Its main role is to protect lung tissue from destruction by neutrophil elastase. In severe (PiZZ) AAT deficiency, there is an increased risk of emphysema, especially in smokers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Cellular mechanisms involved in bone resorption

    University dissertation from Umeå : Umeå universitet

    Author : Ulf Lerner; Umeå universitet.; [1980]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Bone resorption. cyclic AMP; parathyroid hormone; prostaglandins; la OH D3; lysosomal enzyme release; osteoclast; periodontitis; rheumatoid arthritis;

    Abstract : The effects of parathyroid hormone (PTH), prostaglandins (PGE1, PGE2, PGF2a), cAMP, cAMP-analogues, phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors and la (OH) D3 on bone resorption and associated cellular process have been studied in a bone organ culture system using half- calvaria from 6-7 day-old mice. Bone resorption was assessed by determining the release of calcium (Ca2+), inorganic phosphate (Pi) and 45Ca from the calvarial bones to the culture media. READ MORE
