  2. 2. Incidence, predictors and biomarkers for antiretroviral and/or anti-tuberculosis drugs induced liver injury

    Author : Getnet Yimer Ali; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Anti-tuberculosis and/or antiretroviral drugs induced liver injury (DILI) is a major challenge when managing TB and/or HIV patients. The aims of this thesis were to identify incidence, risk factors, and management of DILI among 4 different treatment groups namely; HIV positive individuals with no TB co-infection and had a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking ARV drugs alone = arm 1), TB-HIV co-infected patients with a CD4 count of < 200 cells/μl (taking both anti-TB and ARV drugs = arm 2), TB-HIV coinfected patients with a CD4 count of > 200 cells/μl (taking anti-TB alone = arm 3), HIV negative TB patients (taking anti-TB alone = arm 4). Abstract : In oncology, there is a need to optimize drug treatment for efficient eradication of tumors, minimization of adverse effects (AEs), and prolonging patient survival. Pharmacometric models can be developed to streamline information between drug development phases, describe and quantify response to treatment, and determine dose regimens that balance toxicity and efficacy. 4. 4. Ethyl glucuronide, a new biochemical marker for acute alcohol intake : Studies on possible causes for false-negative or false-positive results

    Author : Helen Dahl; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been a growing interest in various biochemical markers for detecting acute and chronic alcohol consumption. Biochemical markers for acute and chronic drinking play important roles in detecting alcohol use, abuse and dependence in hospital settings, work place settings, traffic medicine and in forensic toxicology examinations.
