1. Absolute Asymmetric Synthesis
Abstract : Absolute asymmetric synthesis is the synthesis of optically active products from achiral or racemic precursors only. This has generally been regarded as impossible and is relevant in the discussion of the origins of biomolecular homochirality. READ MORE

2. Chemoenzymatic Resolution in Dynamic Systems : Screening, Classification and Asymmetric Synthesis
Abstract : This thesis is divided into four parts, all centered around Constitutional Dynamic Chemistry (CDC) and Dynamic Kinetic Resolution (DKR) using biocatalysts for selective transformations, and their applications in screening of bioactive compounds, organic synthesis, and enzyme classification. In part one, an introduction to CDC and DKR is presented, illustrating the basic concepts, practical considerations and potential applications of such dynamic systems, thus providing the background information for the studies in the following chapters. 3. Development of an Asymmetric Synthesis of Glionitrin A and B
Abstract : In this thesis, studies in the chemical synthesis of the dithiodiketopiperazine natural products (—)-glionitrin A and B are described. In Chapter 2, a synthesis of the indoline-fused 2,5-diketopiperazine core of glionitrin A and B using a C-H activation approach is described. READ MORE

5. Cluster-Based Catalysts for Asymmetric Synthesis
Abstract : In this work, the synthesis and characterisation of new low-valence transition metal carbonyl clusters, and an investigation into their viability to act as catalysts/catalyst precursors in asymmetric synthesis, are described. Carbonyl clusters based on ruthenium and osmium have been tested as (pre)catalysts for asymmetric hydrogenation of alpha-unsaturated carboxylic acids, and cobalt carbonyl clusters have been used as (pre)catalysts in (asymmetric) Pauson-Khand synthesis.
