  1. 1. Limiting factors in ATP synthesis

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Wenner-Grens institut för experimentell biologi

    Author : Tatiana Kramarova; Stockholms universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP synthase; biosynthesis; assembly; uncoupling proteins; ATP ADP carrier; ODONTOLOGY Physiology; ODONTOLOGI Fysiologi;

    Abstract : The aim of the present study was to investigate the biosynthesis of the ATP synthase in various tissues, and to test hypotheses about possible models of activation of several mitochondrial proteins, the ATP/ADP translocase and UCPs, that could utilize the proton gradient, thus bypassing the ATP synthase. We have examined the role of the expression of the P1 isoform of the c-Fo subunit in the biogenesis of ATP synthase in brown adipose tissue. READ MORE

  2. 2. Enterostatin - target proteins and intracellular mechanisms. Function in food intake and energy metabolism

    University dissertation from Karin Berger, BMC B11, 221 84 Lund, Sweden

    Author : Karin Berger; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; Lunds universitet.; [2003]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ATP; energy metabolism; insulin; uncoupling protein; beta-casomorphin; opiate; SK-N-MC; INS-1; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; fat intake; F1F0-ATP synthase; appetite; enterostatin; satiety; obesity;

    Abstract : Hunger and satiety are the results of complex neural events that involve several neurotransmitters and peptides. Enterostatin is an appetite-regulating peptide released in the intestine in response to fat ingestion. Enterostatin specifically decreases fat intake, but has also metabolic effects like inhibition of insulin secretion. READ MORE

  4. 4. Mitochondrial function in human skeletal muscle: with special reference to exercise and training

    University dissertation from Stockholm

    Author : Michail Tonkonogi; Högskolan Dalarna.; [2000]
    Keywords : aerobic metabolism; oxidative phosphorylation; mitochondria; oxygen utilisation; citrate synthase; ADP sensitivity; ATP; muscle fibres; hydrogen ions; lactate; free radicals; proton leak; uncoupling; exercise;

    Abstract : The overall objective of this thesis was to study the adaptation of oxidative function in human skeletal muscle to acute exercise of different modes, intensities and durations, and to endurance training.The effects of endurance training on mitochondrial function were evaluated in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies by measurements of mitochondrial oxygen consumption in isolated mitochondria and permeabilised muscle fibres and measurements of mitochondrial ATP production rate in isolated mitochondria.
