  1. 1. Genetic Alterations and Molecular Signatures in Aldosterone Producing Adenomas

    Author : Tobias Åkerström; Peyman Björklund; Tracy Ann Williams; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aldosterone; aldosterone producing adenoma; KCNJ5; ATP1A1; ATP2B3; CACNA1D; CTNNB1;

    Abstract : Primary Aldosteronism (PA) is caused by autonomous overproduction of aldosterone. Aldosterone is necessary for fluid and ion homeostasis. Aberrant overproduction leads to hypertension and cardiovascular damage. READ MORE

  2. 2. The Biophysics of Na+,K+-ATPase in neuronal health and disease

    Author : Evgeny E. Akkuratov; Hjalmar Brismar; Anita Aperia; Stefan Wennmalm; Poul Nissen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Na ; K -ATPase; NMDA receptor; ouabain; phosphoproteome; oligomerization; rapid-onset dystonia-parkinsonism; Biologisk fysik; Biological Physics;

    Abstract : Na+,K+-ATPase is one of the most important proteins in the mammalian cell. It creates sodium and potassium gradients which are fundamental for the membrane potential and sodium-dependent secondary active transport. READ MORE

  3. 3. Genetic and molecular alterations in aldosterone producing adenomas

    Author : Ravi Kumar Dutta; Peter Söderkvist; Oliver Gimm; Ute Scholl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Aldosterone producing tumors (APA, also known as Conn tumors) are adrenal tumors that overproduce aldosterone, a hormone that regulates the sodium levels in blood and contributes to blood pressure (BP) regulation. Excessive production of aldosterone causes hypertension and approximately 5-15% of hypertensive patients have hyperaldosteronism, known as primary aldosteronism (PA). READ MORE

  4. 4. Implications of localization and transport regulation of postsynaptic membrane proteins for synaptic function and psychiatric disorders

    Author : Thomas Liebmann; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : A fundamental means of regulating protein function in cells is through modulation of protein abundance at the sites of action via controlled transport processes. The complexity of neurons makes them especially reliant on regulated delivery of proteins to specialized structures throughout the distant cell branches. READ MORE
