  3. 18. Transport of sodium and protons in the human placenta. Mechanisms in normal pregnancy and alterations in intrauterine growth restriction

    Author : Martin Johansson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; placenta; Na K ATPase; Na H exchanger; H K ATPase; intrauterine growth restriction; BeWo cells; epithelial transport;

    Abstract : The syncytiotrophoblast cell of the human placenta represents the interface between maternal and fetal blood supplies. This polarized epithelium consists of a maternal facing microvillous membrane (MVM) opposing a fetal facing basal membrane (BM). This unique syncytial cell is responsible for transfer of all nutrients to the developing fetus. READ MORE

  4. 19. Determining the effects of regulatory parameters on the structural dynamics of P-type ATPase membrane transporters

    Author : Fredrik Orädd; Magnus Andersson; Magnus Wolf-Watz; Marco Cammarata; Umeå universitet; []

    Abstract : Proteins are macromolecular machines with roles in all cellular activities and structures. The functional properties of each protein is the result of its combination of 3D-structure and inherent dynamics, and a wealth of structural and dynamic mechanisms have evolved to regulate protein activity.
