12. Oxidative stress-related factors in abdominal aortic aneurysm: potential clinical implications
Abstract : Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a mostly silent vascular disease, with a rupture-related mortality rate exceeding 80%. To aid in future diagnosis and prognosis efforts, the studies included in the present thesis have explored the role of specific oxidative stress-related factors in the context of AAA using two population-based cohorts: AAA screening cohort of 65-year-old males (n = 421) and the Malmö diet and cancer study (MDCS) (n = 25252). 13. Significance of intraluminal thrombus in abdominal aortic aneurysm
Abstract : Most AAAs contain an intraluminal thrombus (ILT) and the volume of the ILT correlates with aneurysm size. The thrombus-covered wall is a common site for rupture after bleeding into the ILT. The hypothesis for this thesis was generated when Kazi et al discovered differences in AAA wall between ILT covered and ILT free aortic wall. READ MORE

14. Closure of midline abdominal incisions with small stitches : studies on wound complications and health economy
Abstract : Background A midline incision inflicts minimal damage to muscles, nerves and blood supply. Postoperative complications cause patients suffering and costs for society. Midline incisions should be closed with a continuous single-layer technique and a suture length (SL) to wound length (WL) ratio over 4. READ MORE

15. Coagulation disturbances in the critically ill patient with special reference to prediction of outcome
Abstract : Critically ill patients in intensive care units (ICU) often have coagulation disturbances. Clinical manifestations such as thromboembolism and/or bleeding may result from activation and consumption of coagulation factors and inhibitors. Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) is a severe condition with an often-poor prognosis. READ MORE
