  1. 1. Aortic infections : The Nadir of Vascular Surgery

    Author : Karl Sörelius; Anders Wanhainen; Kevin Mani; Björck Martin; Benjamin Ware Starnes; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Mycotic; aortic; aneurysm; surgery; infection; endovascular repair; open abdomen; Kirurgi; Surgery;

    Abstract : Aortic infections are rare, life-threatening and constitute a major challenge in surgical management. This thesis aims to evaluate short – and long-term outcome of endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for mycotic aortic aneurysms (MAA) and the subsequent risk of recurrent infections, changes in surgical practice over time for abdominal MAAs in Sweden and outcome for different treatment modalities, as well as the risk of secondary vascular infection after treatment with Open abdomen after aortic surgery. 2. 2. Familial occurrence of abdominal aortic aneurysms

    Author : Örjan Norrgård; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abdominal aortic aneurysms; familial occurrence; serum lipids and lipoproteins; genetic markers; morphology; collagen types; vimentin; desmin;

    Abstract : The occurrence of clinically diagnosed and/or ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) in the families of 220 patients with AAAs, treated at the Surgical Clinic, University Hospital of Umeå in the northern part of Sweden during the years 1965-82, was studied. A questionnaire concerning the blood relatives was answered by 87/89 patients. READ MORE

  3. 3. Treatment of abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms :  Aspects on epidemiology and surgical outcome

    Author : Kim Gunnarsson; Kevin Mani; Jonas Eiberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aortic aneurysm. Ruptured aortic aneurysm; Endovascular aneurysm repair; Open aortic repair; Aneurysm; Outcome; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Aortic Aneurysm (AA) is a life-threatening condition when ruptured (RAA), requiring immediate repair for survival. Since the 50´s, open repair, replacing the diseased vessel with a prosthetic (synthetic) graft, has been the gold standard. READ MORE

  4. 4. Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, aspects on diagnosis and treatment

    Author : Kristian Smidfelt; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm; Screening; EVAR; AAA; Mortality; rAAA; Misdiagnosis; ruptured Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm; open abdomen; open repair; abdominal compartment syndrome; vacuum assisted closure;

    Abstract : Background An abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is an abnormal widening of the aorta with a risk of rupture if it grows to a large diameter. Rupture is associated with massive bleeding and a poor prognosis for survival. READ MORE

  5. 5. Abdominal compartment syndrome and colonic ischaemia after abdominal aortic aneurysm repair in the endovascular era

    Author : Samuel Ersryd; Anders Wanhainen; Martin Björck; Khatereh Djavani; Anders Albäck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aortic aneurysm-abdominal; Intra-abdominal pressure; Intra-abdominal hypertension; Abdominal compartment syndrome; Rupture; Open ab-domen treatment; Colonic ischaemia; Endovascular aneurysm repair; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Abdominal Compartment Syndrome (ACS) and colonic ischaemia (CI) are serious and potentially lethal complications after open (OSR) and endovascular repair (EVAR) of ruptured (rAAA) and intact (iAAA) abdominal aortic aneurysms. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the incidence, outcome, and risk factors associated with ACS (Papers I-III) and to evaluate extraluminal colonic tonometry for postoperative surveillance of colonic perfusion (Paper IV).
