  1. 1. Pulmonary Drug Absorption In vitro and in vivo investigations of drug absorption across the lung barrier and its relation to drug physicochemical properties

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Ann Tronde; Uppsala universitet.; [2002]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacy; lung; pulmonary; drug delivery; inhalation; drug transport; pharmacokinetics; absorption; bioavailability; drug metabolism; preclinical; rat; in vivo; isolated and perfused lung; Caco-2; nebulization catheter; aerosol; physicochemical; peptide; efflux; FARMACI; PHARMACY; FARMACI; Biopharmaceutics; biofarmaci;

    Abstract : Although, pulmonary drug delivery is a well established means for targeting of drugs to the lungs for the treatment of respiratory diseases as well as for the systemic delivery of volatile anesthetic agents, drug absorption kinetics in the lung have not been subjected to extensive research. The main objective of this thesis was to investigate drug absorption characteristics of the lung barrier, using the isolated and perfused rat lung model and in vivo pharmacokinetic studies in rats. 2. 2. Intestinal absorption of drugs The impact of regional permeability, nanoparticles, and absorption-modifying excipients

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Carl Roos; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Permeability; intestinal absorption; regional permeability; nanoparticles; nanosuspensions; absorption-modifying excipients; AMEs; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics;

    Abstract : For successful delivery of orally given drug products, the drug compounds must have adequate solubility and permeability in the human gastrointestinal tract. The permeability of a compound is determined by its size and lipophilicity, and is usually evaluated in various pre-clinical models, including rat models. READ MORE

  3. 3. Absorption of Sound On the effects of field interaction on absorber performance

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Anna Färm; KTH.; [2016]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sound absorption; Porous absorbers; Bulk reaction; Local reaction; Boundary layer; Grazing flow; Temperature gradients; Surface impedance; Sound field; Pass-by noise; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : Environmental noise has for decades been a well known problem, especially in urban areas. As noise requirements for vehicles are sharpened, noise reducing concepts are needed in early design stages requiring accurate simulations to support the design. READ MORE

  4. 4. Biopharmaceutical aspects of intestinal drug absorption Regional permeability and absorption-modifying excipients

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : David Dahlgren; Uppsala universitet.; [2018]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intestinal permeability; absorption-modifying excipients; Biofarmaci; Biopharmaceutics;

    Abstract : Before an orally administered drug reaches the systemic circulation, it has to dissolve in the intestinal fluids, permeate across the intestinal epithelial cell barrier, and pass through the liver. The permeation rate of drug compounds can be low and show regional differences.The thesis had two general aims. READ MORE

  5. 5. Deposition and absorption of inhaled drugs

    University dissertation from Department of Clinical Physiology, Lund University

    Author : Eva Bondesson; Lunds universitet.; Lund University.; [2006]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; tomografi; radiologi; Klinisk fysiologi; medical instrumentation; tomography; radiology; Clinical physics; technetium-99m; radionuclide imaging; radioactive aerosol; powder inhaler; pharmacokinetics; mucociliary clearance; lung deposition; gamma scintigraphy; inhalation; deposition modelling; drug absorption; absorption enhancer; aerosol; medicinsk instrumentering; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Abstract : Main objectives of this thesis were to evaluate a gamma scintigraphic method used to quantify drug aerosol deposition in the lung, to investigate the influence of two aerosol inhalation parameters on the distribution of inhaled dry powder within the airways, to assess pulmonary absorption kinetics and bioavailability of an inhaled hydrophilic solute in relation to site of deposition, and to assess the influence of a surface active agent (sodium taurocholate, a bile salt) on the deposition and absorption of an inhaled hydrophilic solute. Repeated planar gamma scintigraphy was found to provide the same information on total pulmonary drug deposition as an independent method that involved assessments of urinary drug recovery after blockage of gastrointestinal drug absorption when all of the critical parts of the methodological procedures were accurately and meticulously executed.
