  1. 21. Development of the gastrointestinal tract in young mammals : Effects of enteral provocation with protease or phytohaemagglutinin in neonatal rats

    Author : Ester Arevalo Sureda; Funktionell zoologi; []
    Keywords : gut; Intestine; Pancreas; development; precocious; protease; PHA; enterocytes; permeability; endocytosis; IgG; FcRn; Blimp1; T-lymphocyte; passive immunity; altricial; neonatal; suckling; athymic; rat; immunohistochemistry IHC ;

    Abstract : The rat, as an altritial species, is born with an immature gastrointestinal tract and intestinal barrier function, which is highly absorptive to milk-borne bioactive molecules that can pass undigested and reach the general circulation of the suckling newborn. This passage occurs by the neonatal-Fc-receptor (FcRn) binding and trancytosis of immunoglobulin G in the proximal small intestine (SI) and by the highly endocytic vacuolated enterocytes non-selectively in the distal SI. 3. 23. Turning innovation failures into strategic assets : exploring how novel innovation can leverage prior failure through resource reuse

    Author : Peter Nandor Popovics; Handelshögskolan i Stockholm; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This doctoral dissertation aims to explore how new innovation initiatives can harness resources from prior failures, challenging the prevailing notion that innovation failures primarily yield lessons learned. Instead, it expands the scope of reusable resources to include non-knowledge-based assets like social, technological, and organizational resources, examining their impact on post-failure ventures and innovation projects. 4. 24. Energy demand management in selected African countries

    Author : Philip Kofi Adom; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis contains five empirical papers that contribute to the energy demand management literature on Africa. It investigates the following policy issues – business cycle and energy conservation, government fuel subsidies and energy efficiency, economic growth and environmental quality, structural effects in parameters, the transition between energy efficiency and energy inefficiency, forecast of energy demand, shifts in demand behaviour, and the persistence profile of energy demand to shocks – using data from five countries: Algeria, Nigeria, South Africa, Cameroon and Ghana. 5. 25. Particle Transcytosis Across the Human Intestinal Epithelium : Model Development and Target Identification for Improved Drug Delivery

    Author : Elisabet Gullberg; Per Artursson; Barry Hirst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; M-cell; FAE; Peyer´s patches; oral vaccination; uptake; endocytosis; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : The use of nano- and micro-particulate carriers as delivery systems for oral vaccines has been under investigation for several decades. Surprisingly little is known of their uptake in the human intestine, despite the fact that substantial improvement is required to achieve adequate immune responses in man after oral administration.
