  1. 6. Measurements of the Top Quark Pair Production Cross Section and an Estimate of the DØ Silicon Detector Lifetime

    Author : Sara Strandberg; Christophe Clément; Barbro Åsman; Steinar Stapnes; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; particle physics; top quark pair production cross section; silicon radiation damage; DØ detector; Tevatron accelerator; Elementary particle physics; Elementarpartikelfysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents two measurements of the top quark pair production cross section at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using data from the DØ experiment. Both measurements are performed in the dilepton final state and make use of secondary vertex b-tagging. READ MORE

  2. 7. Aspects of the ATLAS ITk Inner Tracker development for the high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider

    Author : Jonas Steentoft; Richard Brenner; Rebeca Gonzalez Suarez; Matti Kalliokoski; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ATLAS ITk; Detector instrumentation; Applied physics; Fysik med inriktning mot elementarpartikelfysik; Physics with specialization in Elementary Particle Physics;

    Abstract : The High Luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC), necessitates that the ATLAS experiment replace their current Inner Detector (ID) system. The new Inner Tracker (ITk) will be an all silicon detector, utilising both pixel and strip sensors, with the aim of performing as well, or better than the current system - but in a much more challenging environment. 3. 8. Accelerator-driven systems : safety and kinetics

    Author : Marcus Eriksson; Janne Wallenius; Hamid Aït Abderrrahim; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : The accelerator-driven system (ADS) is recognized as a promising system for the purpose of nuclear waste transmutation and minimization of spent fuel radiotoxicity. The primary cause for this derives from its accelerator-driven, sub-critical operating state, which introduces beneficial safety-related features allowing for application of cores employing fuel systems containing pure transuranics or minor actinides, thereby offering increased incineration rate of waste products and minimal deployment of advanced (and expensive) partitioning and transmutation technologies. 4. 9. Accelerator-driven systems : source efficiency and reacitvity determination

    Author : Andrei Fokau; Jan Wallenius; Viktor Tikhomirov; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Accelerator-driven systems (ADS) are being investigated and designed for transmutation of the long-lived nuclear waste. Application of ADS allows to safely transmute large fractions of minor actinides (MA) per reactor core, while the fraction in critical reactors is limited to a few percent due to the safety constraints. 5. 10. Studies of the fragmentation process in hadronic decays of Z⁰ boson

    Author : Oxana Smirnova; Partikel- och kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; fragmentation; gluon; QCD; hadron calorimeter; DELPHI; LEP; accelerator; particle; Fysik; Physics; Bose-Einstein correlations; Fysicumarkivet A:1996:Smirnova;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on the work that was done during 1992--1996 at the DELPHI detector at LEP. Its main parts are outlined below. The brief Introduction gives an overview of the science of Particle Physics, its development and contemporary status. READ MORE
