  1. 16. Aggregating Case Studies of Vehicle Crashes by Means of Causation Charts : An Evaluation and Revision of the Driving Reliability and Error Analysis Method

    Author : Jesper Sandin; Per Lövsund; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Accident; Cause; Classification; Characteristics; Driver; Error; 81 Road: Accidents; 81 Road: Accidents; 841 Road: Road user behaviour; 841 Road: Road user behaviour;

    Abstract : There is a need for increased knowledge about causes to motor-vehicle crashes and their prevention. Multidisciplinary in-depth case studies can provide detailed causation data that is otherwise unattainable. Such data might allow the formulation of hypotheses of causes and causal relationships for further study. READ MORE

  2. 17. Analyzing real-world data to promote development of active safety systems that reduce car-to-vulnerable road user accidents

    Author : Azra Habibovic; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Accident prevention; Naturalistic observation; Causation analysis; Active safety system; Vulnerable road user VRU ; Driver behavior; Functional requirements; Statistical analysis; VRU behavior;

    Abstract : The overall objective of the thesis is to explore various types of real-world road traffic data and to assess the extent to which they can inform the design of active safety systems that aim to prevent car-to-vulnerable road user (VRU) accidents. A combined analysis of in-depth and police reported accident data provided information on driver behavior and contextual variables, which is valuable for the development of active safety systems. 3. 18. Epidemiological studies of risk factors for injuries in an adult population

    Author : Birgit Modén; Socialmedicin och hälsopolitik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Epidemiologi; injury; accident; sociodemographic factors;

    Abstract : Injuries are often associated with long-term suffering and lowered functioning, and personal injuries impose a huge burden on medical care and health services in addition to the costs associated with impaired functional ability. Each year in Sweden, falling accidents are experienced by a third of those aged 60 or over and half of those aged 80 or over, while injuries from traffic accidents still account for many of the serious accidents in youths and younger adults. 4. 19. Physical performance and physical activity in the later stage post-stroke

    Author : Christiane Carvalho; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cerebrovascular accident; exercise test; gait; healthy control; muscle strength; physical activity; physical therapy; rehabilitation; secondary prevention; stroke; walking;

    Abstract : Aims: The overall purpose of this thesis was to increase knowledge about physical performance and activity in the later stage post-stroke by measuring walking performance in different environments coupled to muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness evaluation and self-reported physical activity. Methods: The studies reported in the thesis included a total of 83 subjects with prior stroke living in the community and 144 clinically healthy subjects from the same area. READ MORE

  5. 20. Safety as a process : From risk perception to safety activity

    Author : Christina Stave; Tore J Larsson; Institutionen för produkt- och produktionsutveckling Chalmers Tekniska Högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Accident prevention; Occupation; Risk; Perception; Safety; Food; Industry; V Medicine; V Medicine; Oha Labour and labour market; Oha Labour and labour market;

    Abstract : The frequency of occupational accidents in the Swedish food industry and agriculture is high. This thesis has therefore explored the 'process of safety' in order to detect and analyse factors that either hinder or facilitate safety activity and to further develop intervention methods towards increased safety activity.
