21. Valuation and pricing of traffic safety
Abstract : This thesis consists of six essays covering the topic of valuation and pricing of accidents. In the first essay a theory of the external marginal cost of accidents is presented. The external cost is dependent on the value of statistical life, the proportion internal cost and the so called risk elasticity, i.e. READ MORE

22. Human-centred design for maritime technology and organizational change
Abstract : Context: The shipping industry is undergoing a transitional phase at different levels, including IMO’s e-Navigation initiative, and with this comes the need to use a human-centred design (HCD) approach to avoid accidents linked to automation issues, and to cater for the maintenance of safety and efficiency within this global transport system. Aims: The aim of this thesis is to investigate the value and challenges in HCD practice and how ergonomics/human factors (E/HF) principles can be introduced, as well as what gaps and opportunities exist in current standard operations and technologies in navigation that can potentially be followed upon by future e-Navigation developments, not only from a technological perspective but also regulatory, operational etc. READ MORE

23. Radiobiological effects of the thyroid gland - transcriptomic and proteomic responses to 131l and 211At exposure
Abstract : Radionuclides are widely used in medicine. 131I is one of the most employed radionuclides and is administered to patients either bound to tumor targeting molecules or as halide to target the thyroid or thyroid cancer. READ MORE

24. CFD Predictions Including Verification and Validation of Hydrodynamic Forces and Moments on Ships in Restricted Waters
Abstract : The evaluation of ship manoeuvrability is of significance at the initial design stage, as inappropriate manoeuvring performance may result in unstable ship motion, difficulties in steering and even marine accidents. Restricted waters, with the presence of solid boundaries of the flow field, such as a shallow seabed below the hull, a side bank in the vicinity of the hull or another hull nearby, complicate the flow field and introduce an influence on hydrodynamic forces and moments acting on the hull. 25. Aggregating Case Studies of Vehicle Crashes by Means of Causation Charts : An Evaluation and Revision of the Driving Reliability and Error Analysis Method
Abstract : There is a need for increased knowledge about causes to motor-vehicle crashes and their prevention. Multidisciplinary in-depth case studies can provide detailed causation data that is otherwise unattainable. Such data might allow the formulation of hypotheses of causes and causal relationships for further study. READ MORE
