  1. 6. Adding Audibility - Reifying the Soundscape of Process Operators

    Author : Petter Alexanderson; Institutionen för informatik; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Technological sciences; Samhällsvetenskaper; Social sciences; systemteori; Informatik; systems theory; Informatics; Process Control; Acoustic Ecology; Interaction Design; Auditory Interaction; Teknik;

    Abstract : A contemporary challenge when designing interactive artifacts is to take into account the wealth of devices, systems, and tools people use every day - here termed an 'interaction ecology'. This thesis addresses three research issues. Firstly, the character of sound perception, and how auditory interaction can be applied to ubiquitous computing. READ MORE

  2. 7. The conflict between Grey seals (Halichoerus grypus) and the Baltic coastal fisheries : new methods for the assessment and reduction of catch losses and gear damage

    Author : Arne Fjälling; Mats Amundin; Sverre Sjölander; Anders Fernö; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Ecology; Grey seals; Baltic coastal fisheries; Ekologi; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : There is a problematic interaction going on between grey seals and the small scale coastal fisheries in the Baltic. A large number of seals are by-caught and drowned each year, and the viability of the fishery is threatened by catch losses caused by the seals. READ MORE

  3. 8. Coral Reef Habitats and Fish Connectivity : Implications for coastal management and fishery

    Author : Tove Lund Jörgensen; Michael Tedengren; Nick Graham; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; anthropogenic disturbance; coral reef habitat; fish community; coastal ecosystems; conservation management; spatial ecology; seascape perspective; holistic approach; marin ekotoxikologi; Marine Ecotoxicology;

    Abstract : Coral reefs have one of the highest levels of biodiversity of all ecosystems in the world and are important for both human livelihood and food security throughout many tropical countries. However, due to increased anthropogenic pressure on marine ecosystems, especially during the last couple of decades, coral reefs have become critically over-fished, and many reefs are now in a degraded state and are facing additional future threats due to further over-exploitation, chemical pollution, sedimentation, and effects of climate change. 4. 9. Media technology versus communication patterns in the organizational interface

    Author : Klara Pihlajamäki; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Kommunikation inom organisationer; Datorisering-- Organisationer;

    Abstract : This thesis describes communication ecology in organizations. One of the main objectives is to identify "ecological balance" which, initially and metaphorically, is described as interaction of senses. The focus is on the systemic relationships between media and communication modes with certain "sensory bias". READ MORE
