11. Nanomechanical Phenomena in Low-Dimensional Structures
Abstract : This is a compilation thesis which investigates various mechanical phenomena in different low-dimensional nanoscale systems. In the first part, we consider a purely mechanical phenomenon: the sensitivity of the dispersion of a Love-type surface acoustic wave (SAW) to geometry and material parameters. READ MORE

12. Advanced MEMS Pressure Sensors Operating in Fluids
Abstract : Today’s MEMS technology allows manufacturing of miniaturized, low power sensors that sometimes exceeds the performance of conventional sensors. The pressure sensor market today is dominated by MEMS pressure sensors. In this thesis two different pressure sensor techniques are studied. READ MORE

13. Advanced Thin Film Electroacoustic Devices
Abstract : The explosive development of the telecom industry and in particular wireless and mobile communications in recent years has lead to a rapid development of new component and fabrication technologies to continually satisfy the mutually exclusive requirements for better performance and miniaturization on the one hand and low cost on the other. A fundamental element in radio communications is time and frequency control, which in turn is achieved by high performance electro-acoustic components made on piezoelectric single crystalline substrates. 14. Wood and fibre mechanics related to the thermomechanical pulping process
Abstract : The main objective of this thesis was to improve the understanding of some aspects on wood and fibre mechanics related to conditions in the thermomechanical pulping process. Another objective was to measure the power distribution between the rotating plates in a refiner. READ MORE

15. Sensitivity and selectivity studies in capillary electrophoresis
Abstract : Capillary electrophoresis is characterised by high separation efficiency, applicability to a wide range of compounds, small sample and solvent consumption and simple instrumentation. To improve sensitivity using on-line absorbance detectors, which are hampered by the short optical path length, sample volumes in the microlitre range were concentrated to nanolitre volumes either off-line or on-line.
