1. EVALUATION OF ACOUSTIC COMFORT IN APARTMENT BUILDINGS
Abstract : This thesis concerns assessment of acoustic comfort in apartment buildings. A new approach is followed, beyond noise annoyance investigation, which was the typical path so far. The latter involved acoustic descriptors, which characterize the structural components, being associated to self-reported noise annoyance. READ MORE

2. The use of Textiles in an Acoustic Context
Abstract : Working with textiles in an acoustic context gives enormous possibilities to combine the acoustic function of materials with the visual function (aesthetics). Depending on the material choice and the production techniques, textiles may for instance be flexible, stiff, airtight, have high density or high porosity. READ MORE

3. Structural-acoustic analysis of wall-to-floor joints in timber-framed housing
Abstract : Even though a building meets the regulations with respect to impact sound, structures with wooden frames may receive complaints from the inhabitants due to structure-borne sound in the lower frequencies. In this thesis measuring methods that are more precise than the traditional measuring methods have been used to see if they could give a better knowledge about flanking transmission in the low frequencies in timber-framed structures. 4. Structural-acoustic vibrations in wooden assemblies : Experimental modal analysis and finite element modelling
Abstract : This doctoral thesis concerns flanking transmission in light weight, wooden multi-storey buildings within the low frequency, primarily 20-120 Hz. The overall aim is to investigate how the finite element method can contribute in the design phase to evaluate different junctions regarding flanking transmission. READ MORE

5. Crack location in steel structures using acoustic emission techniques
