  1. 1. Acoustic Forces in Cytometry and Biomedical Applications: Multidimensional Acoustophoresis

    Author : Carl Grenvall; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Acoustophoresis; Microfluidics; Ultrasound; Multinode; Cell Sorting; Particle Positioning; Cytometry; Lab-on-a-Chip; µTAS; Binary Separation; Acoustic Barriers; Acoustic Particle Manipulation; Acoustic Standing Waves; Blood Separation; Milk Analysis;

    Abstract : Over the last decades the ongoing work in the fields of Lab-on-a-Chip and Micro-Total-Analysis-Systems has led to the discovery of new or improved ways to handle and analyse small volumes of biofluids and complex biosuspensions. The benefits of working on the microscale include: miniaturization of the analysis systems with less need for large sample volumes; temporal and spatial control of suspended particle/cell positions; low volume sheath flow lamination or mixing; novel separation techniques by using forces inherent to the microscale domain; precise regulation of sample temperatures and rapid analysis with less volumes needed to be processed. 2. 2. Acoustic Standing Wave Manipulation of Particles and Cells in Microfluidic Chips

    Author : Andreas Lenshof; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; acoustic particle manipulation; separation; ultrasound; cell handling; particle handling; lab on a chip; Microsystem technology; microfluidics; standing waves;

    Abstract : The rise of MEMS and µTAS techniques has created a whole new family of microfluidic devices for a wide range of chemical and biomedical analyses to be performed on small Lab-on-a-chip platforms. The operations often include small samples of particle or cell suspensions on which separation, mixing, trapping or sorting is performed. READ MORE

  3. 3. Cell and Particle Trapping in Microfluidic Systems Using Ultrasonic Standing Waves

    Author : Mikael Evander; Avdelningen för Biomedicinsk teknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; acoustic particle manipulation; standing waves; trapping; ultrasound; cell handling; particle handling; Microsystem technology; lab on a chip; microfluidics;

    Abstract : Analysis methods are currently being miniaturized in order to save time and money while achieving higher sensitivities. The ultimate goal is to create a lab-on-a-chip where all analysis steps and instruments can be automated and integrated into a single chip. READ MORE

  4. 4. Acoustic characterization of orifices and perforated liners with flow and high-level acoustic excitation

    Author : Lin Zhou; Hans Bodén; Wim De Roeck; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Bias Flow; Grazing Flow; Nonlinear Acoustics; Acoustic Impedance; Impedance Eduction; Single Mode Straightforward Method; Uncertainty Analysis; LEE; LNSE; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer; Järnvägsgruppen - Ljud och vibrationer;

    Abstract : This thesis is motivated by the need for noise control in aircraft engine with orifices and perforated liner. The presence of high-level acoustic excitation, different flow situations either bias flow, grazing flow or any combination in the aircraft engine, makes the acoustic behavior complex due to the interaction between sound and flow over the lined wall. 5. 5. The importance of waves in space plasmas : Examples from the auroral region and the magnetopause

    Author : Gabriella Stenberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Space and plasma physics; Plasma waves; magnetospheric physics; magnetopause; auroral region; wave distribution function; space exploration; reconnection; current tubes; Rymd- och plasmafysik; Space physics; Rymdfysik; rymdfysik; Space Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis discusses the reasons for space exploration and space science. Space plasma physics is identified as an essential building block to understand the space environment and it is argued that observation and analysis of space plasma waves is an important approach.Space plasma waves are the main actors in many important processes.
