1. Non-ionic contrast media in acrylic bone cement
Abstract : Non-ionic, water-soluble, contrast media, iohexol and/or iodixanol, have been investigated for use in acrylic bone cement aimed for arthroplasty. Bone cement, containing the new particulate contrast media , was investigated for: quasi-static mechanical properties, water uptake properties, release of contrast media from the bone cement, biological responses from particulate bone cement, polymerisation reaction, polymerisation temperature, glass transition temperature, injectability and penetration into human cancellous bone, and radiopacity. 2. Injectable Biomaterials for Spinal Applications
Abstract : The use of injectable biomaterials is growing as the demands for minimally invasive procedures, and more easily applicable implants become higher, but their availability is still limited due to the difficulties associated to their design. Each year, more than 700,000 vertebral compression fractures (VCF’s) are reported in the US and 500,000 VCF’s in Europe due to primary osteoporosis only. 3. Bone-compliant cements for vertebral augmentation
Abstract : Acrylic bone cement based on poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) is commonly used during vertebral augmentation procedures for the treatment of osteoporosis-induced vertebral compression fractures. However, the high stiffness of the cement compared to that of the surrounding trabecular bone is presumed to facilitate the formation of new fractures shortly after surgery. READ MORE

4. New polymer materials in total hip arthroplasty. Evaluation with radiostereometry, bone densitometry, radiography and clinical parameters
Abstract : Aims: To evaluate the outcome of different types of polyethylene, bone cements and one design of uncemented fixation with porous and ceramic coating using radiostereometry, bone densitometry, conventional radiography and clinical parameters.Materials and methods: Study 1: 201 patients were extracted from 5 prospective randomised studies to evaluate femoral head penetration at two years with radiostereometry in four basic designs, cemented Lubinus and Reflection cups, uncemented Trilogy and Reflection cups.
