  1. 1. A Podocyte view on RhoGTPases and actin cytoskeleton regulation

    Author : Lovisa Bergwall; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Podocyte; RhoGTPases; Actin cytoskeleton regulation;

    Abstract : Proteinuria is a hallmark symptom of chronic kidney disease, that if left to persist constitutes a risk for progression of disease. Symptomatic treatment aiming at decreasing proteinuria is therefore standard practice. READ MORE

  2. 2. Divisive structures : Two billions years of biofilament evolution

    Author : Fredrik Hurtig; Ann-Christin Lindås; Lionel Guy; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Evolution; Archaea; Eukaryogenesis; ESCRT-III; Actin; Profilin; Gelsolin; Asgard; TACK; Sulfolobus; Cell division; Cytokinesis; Cytoskeleton; Heimdallarchaeota; Actin-binding protein; molekylär biovetenskap; Molecular Bioscience;

    Abstract : Our understanding of the functional and regulatory complexity that existed in the eukaryotic progenitor is poor, and investigations have been hindered by our nebulous understanding of where eukaryotes stem from. Recently discovered archaeal lineages with hitherto unseen homology to eukaryotic systems suggest archaea can further our understanding of the eukaryotic cell’s ancestry. READ MORE

  3. 3. Structural Study of the WH2 Family and Filamin: Implications for Actin Cytoskeleton Regulation

    Author : Adeleke H. Aguda; Robert Robinson; Lars Rask; Lars Backman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Biochemistry; Actin; Thymosin; Ciboulot; N-WASP; Filamin; Calponin homology domain; WH2; Protein Crystallography; Biokemi;

    Abstract : Cellular processes like motility, chemotaxis, phagocytosis and morphogenesis are dependent on the dynamic regulation of the actin cytoskeleton. This cytoskeleton system is tightly controlled by a number of diverse actin-binding proteins (ABPs) by various mechanisms described as nucleation, polymerization, capping, severing, depolymerization and sequestration. 4. 4. From Cell Shape to Body Shape: Epithelial Morphogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster

    Author : Shai Mulinari; Sociologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Odd-skipped; morphogenesis; Hedgehog; segment boundaries; segmental grooves; Actin; Drosophila; DRhoGEF2; Myosin; Diaphanous; Rho GTPase; cytoskeleton; Rho1;

    Abstract : Embryonic development is associated with extensive rearrangements of tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by a dynamic reorganization of the Actin cytoskeleton of individual cells. READ MORE

  5. 5. The role of PKC in neuronal differentiation and in regulation of the actin cytoskeleton during neurite outgrowth

    Author : Ulrika Trollér; Institutionen för translationell medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Rho-family; actin cytoskeleton; neurite; differentiation; PKC; regulatory domain; Genetics;

    Abstract : Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine/threonine kinases subgrouped into classical (α, βI, βII, γ), novel (δ, ε, η, θ) and atypical (ζ, ι/λ) isoforms. PKC can be activated by phorbol esters, and prolonged treatment of neuroblastoma cells has been shown to induce neuronal differentiation with neurite outgrowth and increased expression of neuronal genes.
