  1. 1. Properties and applications of materials based on graphite oxide

    Author : Andreas Nordenström; Aleksandr V. Talyzin; Thomas Wågberg; Andrey Turchanin; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Graphene; Graphite Oxide; Graphene Oxide; Swelling; Phase Transition; Intercalation; Activated Graphene; Activated Carbon; Supercapacitors; Neutron Reflectometry;

    Abstract : Graphite oxide (GO) is a hydrophilic, layered material prepared by oxidation of graphite. In the first part of this thesis, we studied materials produced from GO by intercalation and functionalization. The second part of the thesis was focused on supercapacitor applications of high surface area carbons prepared from GO using chemical activation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functionalized Graphene as Superlattice and Gas Sensor

    Author : Tianbo Duan; Klaus Leifer; Andrey Turchanin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; graphene; functionalization; gas sensor; superlattice;

    Abstract : Graphene, an atomic-thin carbon sheet with carbon atoms tightly packed honeycomb-like lattice, has attracted enormous interest due to its unique chemical and physical properties. However, the intrinsic zero bandgap characteristic of graphene has so far prevented graphene from building effective electronic and optoelectronic devices. READ MORE

  3. 3. Carbon Nanostructures – from Molecules to Functionalised Materials : Fullerene-Ferrocene Oligomers, Graphene Modification and Deposition

    Author : Michael Nordlund; Helena Grennberg; Mogens Brøndsted Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fullerenes; Graphene; Deposition; Functionalization; Organometallic complexes; Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry; Kemi med inriktning mot organisk kemi;

    Abstract : The work described in this thesis concerns development, synthesis and characterisation of new molecular compounds and materials based on the carbon allotropes fullerene (C60) and graphene.A stepwise strategy to a symmetric ferrocene-linked dumbbell of fulleropyrrolidines was developed. 5. 5. Functionalization and Characteization of Carbon-based Nanomaterials

    Author : Nan Wang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; carbon nanomaterials; graphene; hybrid nanowires; flexible electronics; functionalization;

    Abstract : Surface functionalization of nanomaterials opens up unlimited possibilities to combine the distinct properties of inorganic, organic, or even bioactive components in a single material and bring novel functionalities in a wide range of applications ranging from electronics to catalysts and medicine carriers. So far, a variety of organic and inorganic nanomaterials have been explored to construct different functionalized nanomaterials. READ MORE
