  1. 21. Genetic and epigenetic characterization of pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia

    Author : Josef Davidsson; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; high hyperdiploid ALL; children; chromosome aberration; methylation profiling; array CGH; relapse; SNP array; clonal relationship; dup 1q ;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to analyze the genetic and epigenetic characteristics of pediatric high hyperdiploid acute lymphoblastic leukemia (HeH ALL), the most common type of childhood malignancy. The three original articles presented in this thesis have addressed three major questions regarding HeH ALL: what are the genetic characteristics of the most common structural abnormality – dup(1q)? Are aberrant methylation patterns involved in leukemogenesis? How do diagnostic and relapse samples relate to each other genetically? In article I we found that the proximal breakpoints of dup(1q)-positive Burkitt lymphomas (BL) and pediatric HeH ALLs cluster close to the centromere, suggesting this region to be breakprone, and that five genes on 1q were significantly overexpressed and thus potentially pathogenetically important. 2. 22. Genetic Characterization of Pediatric T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia

    Author : Kristina Karrman; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leukmia; genetic characterization; pediatric;

    Abstract : The aim of my thesis has been to characterize genetically pediatric T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T-ALL). Articles I and II focus on molecular characterization of translocations involving T-cell receptor (TCR) loci. READ MORE

  3. 23. Significance of Wilms’ tumor gene 1 as a biomarker in acute leukemia and solid tumors

    Author : Charlotta Andersson; Eva Lundin; Aihong Li; Andreas Jonsson; Xingru Li; David M. Loeb; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Wilms’ tumor gene 1; biomarker; leukemia; renal cell carcinoma; ovarian carcinoma; Clinical Chemistry; klinisk kemi; patologi; Pathology;

    Abstract : Wilms’ tumor gene 1 (WT1) is a zinc finger transcriptional regulator with crucial functions in embryonic development. Originally WT1 was described as a tumor suppressor gene, but later studies have shown oncogenic properties of WT1 in a variety of tumors. Because of its dual functions in tumorigenesis, WT1 has been described as a chameleon gene. READ MORE

  4. 24. Identification and Characterization of Stem Cells in Preleukemia and Leukemia

    Author : Lars Nilsson; Stamcellscentrum (SCC); []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Haematology; extracellulära vätskor; Hematologi; Philadelphia chromosome; acute lymphoblastic leukemia; polycytemia vera; 5q- syndrome; myelodysplastic syndromes; self-renewal; preleukemia; Hematopoietic stem cells; leukemic stem cells; extracellular fluids;

    Abstract : Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are responsible for the daily and life long production of large numbers of mature blood cells through highly regulated self-renewal and multilineage capabilities. Leukemias on the other hand, are characterized by a clonal, dysregulated, lineage skewed proliferation and impaired differentiation as the result of multiple accumulated genetic events. READ MORE

  5. 25. Genomic characterization of pediatric acute lymphoblastic leukemia by deep sequencing

    Author : Carl Mårten Lindqvist; Ann-Christine Syvänen; Gabor Marth; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in children, with close to 200 cases per year in the Nordic countries. Despite recent advances in modern chemotherapies, 20% of the ALL patients experience a relapse. READ MORE
