  1. 1. Opportunistic viral infection after paediatric transplantation

    Author : Carola Kullberg-Lindh; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Paediatric liver transplantation; paediatric stem cell transplantation; immunosuppression; opportunistic; CMV; EBV; AdV; HHV-6; real-time PCR; monitoring; specimen; post transplant lymphoproliferative disease;

    Abstract : Background: Opportunistic viral infections can cause considerable morbidity and mortality in organ and stem cell transplanted (SCT) patients, mainly due to iatrogenic T cell dysfunction. Whereas in SCT patients, in general the immunosuppressive treatment can be discontinued after 6-12 months, for the majority of organ transplanted patients, the need for treatment is life-long. 2. 2. Experimental and computational evaluations of parallel spillway outlets

    Author : Mikael Hedberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Strömningslära; Fluid Mechanics;

    Abstract : Experiments and computational simulations have been performed as part of a larger project to instil trust in computational methods for design of hydraulics flows in spillways. Presented in this licenciate is one manuscript and two conference papers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Viral infections in immunocompromised patients

    Author : Lars Öhrmalm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The number of patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is steadily increasing, and the outcome of this intervention is largely dependent on how well complications in the form of severe infections can be adequately diagnosed and controlled. Adenoviruses (AdV) have emerged as important causes of morbidity and mortality in these patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dendritic cells in immune and gene therapy against cancer

    Author : Andreas Lundqvist; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Dendritic cells; immunotherapy; gene therapy;

    Abstract : Dendritic cells (DC) are extensively used for vaccine therapy due to their superior T cell stimulatory capacity. However, the modest therapeutic effects reported by most clinical trials using DC, together with the rapid developing field of DC biology suggests important considerations for improvement of the clinical outcome. 5. 5. Regulation of human dendritic cells and T cells by adenovirus vectors types 5 and 35 : implications for vaccine design

    Author : William C Adams; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Following viral infection or vaccination dendritic cells (DC) perform an intricate series of roles at the interface of innate and adaptive immunity. Peripheral DC recognition of pathogen associated molecular patterns initiates signaling cascades leading to morphological and phenotypic maturation. READ MORE
