1. Runtime Management of Multiprocessor Systems for Fault Tolerance, Energy Efficiency and Load Balancing
Abstract : Efficiency of modern multiprocessor systems is hurt by unpredictable events: aging causes permanent faults that disable components; application spawnings and terminations taking place at arbitrary times, affect energy proportionality, causing energy waste; load imbalances reduce resource utilization, penalizing performance. This thesis demonstrates how runtime management can mitigate the negative effects of unpredictable events, making decisions guided by a combination of static information known in advance and parameters that only become known at runtime. 2. Advances on Adaptive Fault-Tolerant System Components: Micro-processors, NoCs, and DRAM
Abstract : The adverse effects of technology scaling on reliability of digital circuits have made the use of fault tolerance techniques more necessary in modern computing systems. Digital designers continuously search for efficient techniques to improve reliability, while keeping the imposed overheads low. READ MORE

3. Fault Tolerance for Real-Time Systems: Analysis and Optimization of Roll-back Recovery with Checkpointing
Abstract : Increasing soft error rates in recent semiconductor technologies enforce the usage of fault tolerance. While fault tolerance enables correct operation in the presence of soft errors, it usually introduces a time overhead. READ MORE

4. Reconfigurable NoC and Processors Tolerant to Permanent Faults
Abstract : Advances in semiconductor industry have led to reduced transistor dimensions andincreased device density, but inevitably they have compromised the reliability of moderncomputing systems. In this thesis, we address the reliability problemby exploitinghardware reconfiguration for tolerating permanent faults. READ MORE

5. Quality-Driven Synthesis and Optimization of Embedded Control Systems
Abstract : This thesis addresses several synthesis and optimization issues for embedded control systems. Examples of such systems are automotive and avionics systems in which physical processes are controlled by embedded computers through sensor and actuator interfaces. READ MORE
