  1. 21. The discovery of antiviral compounds targeting adenovirus and herpes simplex virus : assessment of synthetic compounds and natural products

    Author : Mårten Strand; Göran Wadell; Mikael Elofsson; Ya-Fang Mei; Lieve Naesens; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; virology; antiviral; adenovirus; herpes simplex virus; small molecule; inhibitor; hsv; drug discovery; medicinsk virologi; Medical Virology; datorlingvistik; computational linguistics; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : There is a need for new antiviral drugs. Especially for the treatment of adenovirus infections, since no approved anti-adenoviral drugs are available. Adenovirus infections in healthy persons are most often associated with respiratory disease, diarrhea and infections of the eye. These infections can be severe, but are most often self-limiting. 2. 22. Functional Characterization of the Cellular Protein p32 : A Protein Regulating Adenovirus Transcription and Splicing Through Targeting of Phosphorylation

    Author : Christina Öhrmalm; Göran Akusjärvi; Neus Visa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell and molecular biology; Adenovirus; p32; ASF SF2; E4-ORF4; Splicing; Transcription; CTD; RNA Pol II; Cell- och molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Cellular processes involved in the conversion of the genetic information from DNA into a protein are often regulated by reversible phosphorylation reactions. By modulating the phosphorylated status of key proteins their activity can either be enhanced or repressed. READ MORE

  3. 23. Mechanisms involved in adenovirus binding to and infection of host cells

    Author : Cecilia Nyberg; Niklas Arnberg; Pierre Boulanger; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : Adenovirus; binding; infection; lactoferrin; coagulation factor IX and X; fiber; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : The adenovirus (Ad) family consists of 52 different human types, which are divided into seven species (A-G). Human Ads cause disease in the respiratory tract, lymphoid tissue, intestine, urinary tract, and/or in the eye. READ MORE

  4. 24. The quest for new improved adenovirus gene therapy vectors against glioma tumours

    Author : Johan Skog; Göran Wadell; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gene therapy; virology; adenovirus; glioma; glioblastoma; Genterapi; virologi; adenovirus; gliom; glioblastom; Virology; Virologi;

    Abstract : Gene therapy has received much attention the last decade as a method to correct a number of disorders arising from a defective gene. Gene therapy can be defined as the introduction of a functional genetic element into a cell for a therapeutic purpose. READ MORE

  5. 25. Construction of Adenovirus Vectors for Studies of Protein Function and RNA Interference

    Author : Saideh Berenjian; Göran Akusjärvi; Mikael Berg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microbiology; Adenovirus; viral vectors; VA RNAI II; RNAi; Tet-ON OFF; RNA splicing; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology; Mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : During an adenovirus infection the accumulation of alternatively spliced mRNAs is subjected to a tight temporal regulation. The IIIa protein is a structural protein expressed exclusively late after infection. READ MORE
